Sound Card Issue help?? by Savior on 04-05-2005 at 06:25 PM

I'm having a sound card issue.  I have an onboard soundcard in a Dell Optiplex 150 machine and when I play online sounds and CD's it sounds like chimpmunks are singing or talking.

I have the latest DirectX
the Latest WMP9.0 for Windows 2000 machine

I tried reinstalling the sound card driver, I've tried installing another soundcard. I tried upgrading the DirectX and also tried reinstalling the codecs.  But still to no avail.

Can you guys give me some suggestions on a solution?

Thanks

Try upgrading to WMP10 if possible.

If you use the CD Player built into Windows. (Start > Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > CD Player)

Does it sound the same? If not might be the audio codec from Windows Media Player.

Did you try the CD Player in Windows?

Windows Media Player 10

Windows Media Player 10 is not available for Windows 2000 and that's OS I am using.  I tried CD Player but I get the same effect. chipmunks playing on an open fire :D

Check for updates for the sound card on Dells website.

Do all sounds sound like chipmunks? Or have the same high pitch noise?

Maybe check sound settings in Control Panel 'Sound Effect Manager' or 'Sound and Audio Devices'

Check volume bars, and tick boxes etc.
