You can download A-Patch from http://www.a-patch.tk, and it has got more features than just hiding the search-bar ;) you get a simple wizard with tick-options and it's done in 5 minutes...

You can also use Ghost Patch:

Ghost Patch Download.

Once you have it:
Close MSN.
Run Ghost Patch.
Select the things you want done.
Click Go.
Select the MSN Messnger folder on your computer.
Restart MSN.

you could also do it yourself with a program called reshacker

UIFILE 920:
Search for "<element id=atom(searchbtnbk)"
replace with "<element id=atom(searchbtnbk) layoutpos=none"

this would be done via a patch, you can use one of the following:
Ghost Patch - http://volv.bounceme.net/index.php?page=ghost
A-Patch - http://www.a-patch.tk/
MSN 7 Universal Patcher++ 0.4 - http://www.mastaline.com/fun/msnstuff/dl.php?dl=45

or by doing it yourself:

A-Patch isn't a parmanent add-on, you just open it for once, select what you want to throw out, click oké and remove the thing, you'll never see it again along with your searchbar and the other stuff you selected. If you want to restore it again, run A-Patch again and restore defaults
