Uninstall MSN Messenger, go to C:/Program Files/ and delete the folder "MSN Messenger", now, download the latest installer from  http://messenger.msn.com and install...

What patches did you use? If it's something like Mess Patch i think it has a backup feature that will alow you to go to your previous settings... but if you deleted the whole folder and its still gone then try running the instal as "repair" ... if THAT doesn't work then yeah you probably have to do something to the registry but that's out of my league

I also don't have search option anywhere and I haven't had it since MSN Messenger 7 BETA was released. I think it is involved with local region.

It's best to wait untill someone confirms this because you can damage your system editing registrys. But I tried to find out, here's what I got.

Start > Run > editreg

go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSNMessenger

I don't if you delete everything there or what :P
Best wait for someone who noes what their talking about.
