Sign in / Sign out mp3 sound files won't play. by Sky-keeper on 04-19-2005 at 12:45 AM

Hi.

I just installed the new version of msg+. My online/offline events sounds don't work anymore (special ones I've for a contact). They wouldn't play. Although it works with the preview button from the "browse" common dialog.

Once the file path is entered in msg+ and I click "play" it doesn't play. It says "Plus! is unable to play that file". It seems to work with WAV files.

Still, I remember I had to modify an option in the registery, a while ago, because my sound file was 71 seconds long. I checked. That option wasn't modified.

I believe there's something else I have to do to "reallow" abusive soundfiles as I use them. Would you have an idea over what I should do?

Thanks for replying.

PS: Chaotic_Shield told me to "talk to Dane"... so if he's around :D

Cheers,
Ken.

You can try changing the MPEG codec used (can't remember where the option is though). Other than that, just make sure the soundfiles are where you expect them, and that they work.
Sorry I couldn't be any more help.

Actually, that option doesn't exist anymore.

I have the same problem on two other machines I installed the latest version of Plus! on. My machine is a wXP Pro, and the other ones are an XP Home and a 2k Pro.

Anybody ? :'(

NB : "on two other machines". In fact, on every machine I installed it, since I installed it on 3 machines. (Just to clarify it's not working/not working depending on the machine, just not working at all with me :().

Does the option still exist in Plus! Tweak?

I dont believe so.

As for your problem, Sky-keeper, have you checked to make sure that Windows Audio is enabled??

To check for and if required Enable Windows audio service:
1. Open MSN Messenger or a Conversation and Select "Tools"
2. Go to "Options"
3. Click "Alerts and Sounds"
4. If Audio is disabled, you'll prolly see a big icon that says "You must enable Windows Audio.", and follow instructions, if not, continue to step 5.
5. Click the "Sounds" button
6. Ensure that your volume and Sound information is OK.

Yes... I have sound... MSN sounds work also... just not the special sign in things. All you refer about is enabled also.

Here's some screenshots so you can see exactly what I mean...

Hope it's clearer:D

When working with the "Aline Sign In - WAV" file it works OK, so it really seems to be the mp3 file not working at that particular place ! (And also when the event occurs !)

It was all working OK with the same files BEFORE I upgraded to Plus! 3.52.130. My MSN version is 6.2.0205.

Ken.

You are running that from drive D (which is default for CD Rom) Try copying the file you want to the C drive.
