Uploading a webpage to a server by vincerooney on 04-25-2005 at 12:19 AM

I'm using macromedia dreamweaver and i'm a bad n00b but enjoying using the program to create a very basic webpage at the moment.

I've signed up with 100WebSpace to host my webpage. But i havent a clue how to get the webpage i've saved into my documents onto my 100WebSpace address. I know i've got to do something with ftp...but i havent a clue what and how to do it...

This is probably a really complicated question to explain...so any information on how to do it would be grateful. Such as a step by step guide if anyone is brave enough to do it for me. or at least show me where i can get this information.

many thanks

Dreamweaver does allow you to connect to your hosting account, but its a pain to setup ;) So for the purpose of the conversation, we will say no it doesnt, but agreed, its best to get a FTP client like cuteftp or smartFTP.

Also, i honestly cant help to comment. If you are using free web hosting, theres always draw backs, banners, downtime, no customer service, etc, etc.
Also just doing some calculations, the most standard package they have at $5.95/mo ~ £3.00 and ~£27.00 per annum. <-- lose

Save a tree, cure an itch, and buy web hosting ;) EckoHost.com Web Hosting Solutions

actually dreamweaver ftp is really easy to setup

Site > Manage Sites

click new > site

and just follow through the steps until you get to this window
[Image: attachment.php?pid=449014]

hostname is the ftp url (e.g ftp.yourdomain.com)
folder should just be blank i think
login is your username
password is your password

then just test your connection and it should work fine

to upload, open the files panel and it should have a dropdown box with your site on it and another dropdown box with local view and remote view
switch to local view and it should list all the files in the folder for the site you made. just right click them and click put to upload the file

not sure why any of you think its a pain to set up tbh

Does anyone know what the ftp host is for 100webspace.com? and the  host directory?

I don't know what to put for both these two

its:

server: freefronthost.com

Username

password

then once connected to the server through the ftp it should say  /accountname.freefronthost.com/ thats your directory.

replacing accountname with the name you signed up with.

try setting host to ftp.webpal.info and change directory to "/" (without quotes)

EDIT: when you registered you should have received an email with the ftp info
