Minor conflict between A-Patch and MSN 7.0.813 by alegator on 05-07-2005 at 11:11 AM

I did a clean MSN (latest 7.0.813 final official) and A-Patch (latest 813 compatible 1.5) installation. When I open the cMSN client I see a blue link above the contact list displaying a message announcing the new feature of adding a contact by his mobile. This link is supposed to dissappear after you click on it. Problem is that after applying A-Patch this link is inactive (you can't click on it) so you'll see it permanently. So I uninstalled MSN, reinstalled MSN and before applying A-Patch I clicked on the message (it was clickable) and it dissappeared. After that I installed A-Patch and everything went fine.
So A-Patch somehow makes that message unclickable and stay forever, forcing one to only install A-Patch AFTER that message is removed.

You may of selected a certain option to enable this, is there an option that your selected that could cause this?

RE: Minor conflict between A-Patch and MSN 7.0.813 by alegator on 05-07-2005 at 11:38 AM

I can't think of an A-Patch option I selected to cause this. I think the most related option for this issue would be "Remove Gleam Notification"? But I did not choose it.

Hmm, it seems strange, but I had to uninstall Messenger and then re-install it from scratch (not over the previous installation) for Messenger to run and operate as it should.

It removes the gold star that "gleams" next to your contacts whenever they update their spaces.

Ok, so then the remove gleam notification feature has nothing to do with the problem I posted. There must be some conflict then. Did anyone experiment with this situation to check wether it happens other than myself?

Another Off-Topic question:
I like the feature that removes the text "Messenger" next to the MSN-logo, and the one that removes the text next to the Hotmail-, My space- and MSN today-buttons from Apatch. And I also like the feature which adds a Log off-button from Messpatch. I have tried to use both patches, but it doesn't work, no matter if I use Messpatch or Apatch first. Any tips to give me the Log off-button from Messpatch when I have used Apatch? Edit: Or the opposite way, let me remove the mentioned texts that Apatch removes after I have used Messpatch?

Edit #2:There is another function in Apatch that shows users as "Idle" instead of "Away" if they have been inactive for a certain amount of minutes. Is it possible, in the registry maybe, to change the text "Idle" to something else? After all "Idle" is the only status in English in my Messenger...

Because the instructions on the patch CLEARLY says, apply ONLY on a unmodified and clean installation of MSN Messenger...

If you're up to it you can always patch the skinned messenger yourself: http://forum.mess.be/index.php?showtopic=5341

I found a bug in the most recent version of A-patch. It removes the Billing Info Menus even if I don't choose to remove it. I even tested the opposite way to see if the menus remained if I selected to remove them, but no matter what I choose they disappear. I hope that Ahmad fixes this, and also replies to the other questions I have made earlier in this post.

I know there is a dedicated forum for A-patch, but the server (http://apatch.killercarrot.co.uk/) seems to be down. I haven't been able to access it all day. That's why I post the bug here.

The forums are working fine for me.

There might be a problem with my ISP and DNS? Because no matter what I do, I can't access that domain.

RE: Minor conflict between A-Patch and MSN 7.0.813 by Zephyr on 05-08-2005 at 12:18 AM

Try checking your hosts file for the domain.

Go to start -> Run -> notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Then check for the domain. If it is there, delete that line only and save the file. That should do the trick.

Still the link doesn't work :(
Does it work with you einum yet?

RE: Minor conflict between A-Patch and MSN 7.0.813 by einum on 05-11-2005 at 01:25 PM

Spooky that you should ask me that, 'cause I tested it only 15 minutes ago! :-o

I still can't get http://apatch.killercarrot.co.uk/ or http://apatch.killercarrot.co.uk/forum/ to work. I can access www.killercarrot.co.uk though, but there isn't any link to apatch-forum on that page....

And it doesn't seem that Ahmad has seen my post here... :-S

Yea sorry the problems with the forum being offline were my fault, I'm switching them over to my new Host right now, so they should be working fine ASAP :)
