you can hide all of the icons using HideShow from Dempsey Software but you probally only want to hide some of them i'm guessing?

I think this tool Tray Manager 2.0 will help you do it.

Well I can make a little program to remove or hide the MSN icon for you if you want?

If you would that would be great :)

As long as it's easy restorable that would be fantastic :)

Just need it to hide the icon and the message windows

Thanks :)

well i can easily hide/change the systray icon, but I'm not sure Plus! hides the message windows in the taskbar, I'll have a go

EDIT:  It was easier than I thought, got the convos hidden now

Kinda something like Plus boss protection in its own file that doesn't need MSN installed to work. I'm running it off the 3 required files.

I was looking at your software and you probably know already but you could use your hide and show thingie to hide the running apps and if you can be specific hide msn and use the sys tray tool and make it hide the logo.

I could use this but then it looks suspicious if half of the core components of the taskbar are missing lol

thanks again

Yea doing it that way, I either have to hide all running apps an dall system tray icons or none.

But anyways I've done it, it just has two buttons, Hide and Show.  If you have any problems/requests etc let me know.  I havent tested it on MSN7 but I think it should work.

It should hide:

  • All Messenger Conversations
  • Messenger Contact List
  • System Tray Icon

Atm it just changes the system tray icon to nothing, but I could add an option to change it to an icon of your choice if wanted?

Yeah thanks, i will try it tomorrow morning, the logo is fine, however one request : - can it look a little different? because the file name and the screen info kinda gives it away.

Thanks again

Something small and effective :) I made a simple drawing in Paint which would be good.

The window could be called Novell Manager and a little icon from
like this:

(Cropped of course)

Other than that something small and manageable would be lovely :)

Thanks!

edit:The show button seems a little dodgy, it sometimes reshows but sometimes doesn't :S

Which bits dont reshow?
RE: Hiding taskbar icons in Win 2000 by mwe99 on 05-11-2005 at 06:33 PM

The actual msn, it just stays a clear icon at the bottom and you have to click it to open (dunno was this intended?)

RE: Hiding taskbar icons in Win 2000 by Dempsey on 05-11-2005 at 06:38 PM

oh yea ok, I forgot about replacing the icon :P

has anyone got an icon editor or the novell icon or something? I dont have an icon editor on this PC

RE: Hiding taskbar icons in Win 2000 by mwe99 on 05-11-2005 at 06:46 PM

One Novell Icon :) It will do just fine

RE: Hiding taskbar icons in Win 2000 by Dempsey on 05-11-2005 at 08:01 PM

Here it is, now has the Novell Icon and is called 'Novell Manage'

It should also reset the system try icon back to the MSN icon after showing.

Have fun :)

Lovely :) Thanks, I shall enjoy using that

RE: Hiding taskbar icons in Win 2000 by Dempsey on 05-11-2005 at 08:17 PM

np :)   I hope you don't get caught using MSN :P

RE: Hiding taskbar icons in Win 2000 by mwe99 on 05-11-2005 at 08:26 PM

(A) Nah i won't not if your tool works :P if i do i shall have to blame you :P

The teacher spends like 3/4 of the lesson out of the room now adays anyways. Yup your tool seems to work well :) and the low quality icon is removed when you click the msn one.

thanks

Testing Review

Okay some pointers to add.

  1. When a new window open it shows up even though its under hide mode
  2. It doesn't hide the window toast notifications
  3. The coversation windows don't always hide
