could there be a command to have things temporarily stored.

For example, you type

/memory "store this"

and then if you say

(!MEM)

then it will automatically replace it with "store this"

this could be useful if you need to tell a lot of people the same thing within a short space of time, but you don't want to create a quick text.

For example, if you have a new phone number, then you can store your number in the memory and send it to people who ask you.

You could also make quick texts like this...

/memory (!N)
/nick saral
/ me slaps (!CN) around with a large trout
/nick (!MEM)

A seperate memory storage for something like this, isn't very paractical I think. I mean, how long is the "temporary storage" going to last? For you, maybe a whole msn messenger session is enough, for others it would be too short, etc...

On the other hand, there is already such a storage system, called the quicktexts just as you said :D. It is ideal for it...

The only thing you can't do yet is create a quicktext on the fly. But a small plugin would be ideal for something like this (and is exactly why the plugin system exists). You could create a plugin which makes a quicktext to store such stuff.

In that way, the temporary storage isn't something different and new, but something which last as long as you want and uses the existing "system"...

Thus, what I wanna say is: idea is nice, but I don't think a new storage system should be made or even a new command or something, all can be done with a plugin (which can even be configured to store it as a quicktext, or in it's own memory file or something)

I think it's a good idea, and it need only be applied for one msn session, so the temp could be cleared when MSN in closed.

I'd personally use NotePad :P

Funny really, that NotePad is useful for taking notes...

U could use notepad but i think this could be fun ;)

It would feel nice too .... and well the memory could prolly stay there
till the next pc boot or something :P then mabbe we could have stuff
like (!MEM1) , (!MEM2) .... till 5 i guess :D

i jsut wrote a plugin to do this for you'se.

/xmem hello
will store the word hello in a file, this means that after restart and
log off and stuff the word hello will still be retrieveable.

/xret returns the stored text and auto sends it to the contact.

any improvments you want me to make ill be happy to.

Installation:
Run the Reg File.
put the DLL in your Plus plugins folder.
open command promt and type "regsvr32 'Path to Messenger Plus Plugins Folder'/Memory.dll"

restart MSN Messenger, and the plugin should be working.

you can tell if its working by checking the Plus! Plugins Menu, there should be an item called "Text Memory Storer".

thanks :)

You could have at least removed the default commands left in the sample like (!XSAMPVB) :dodgy:

RE: /memory by saralk on 05-13-2005 at 03:29 PM

could you make (!XMEM)?
