Slow Broadband Speed by Chris4 on 05-15-2005 at 02:02 PM

This may be normal, but at the moment I have 300k Broadband from NTL (getting upgrade soon)

When I do connection tests, I get 260k-270k

Why arn't I getting the full connection speed I should be getting?

Possibly due to firewalls? I have the same NTL as you and will run a test to see. What program did you use to test?

I get 287K, maybe something due to NTL then, as we both get the *same* result

Without MSN running i get 289K

It says on the ntl Service Status page that there are some problems at the minute affecting some places.

That might be affecting it.

It could be that there are programs on your end that are taking up bandwidth. The only way you can get a clean test is to make sure that nothing apart from the test is accessing the internet, which is virtually impossible to do.

You should never usually get the COMPLETE bandwidth rating your ISP offers, because many factors like long wires, load at the ISP, and sometimes your ISPs routers will slow the connection between your modem and the ISP.

Also, any programs that use the internet will lower your bandwidth reading.

I used NTL Hell speed test. I've also used lodes more, they all say round about the same.
