Help; The downfall of NoName by dotNorma on 05-16-2005 at 12:39 AM

Alright, Some of you might of noticed my absense lately. This is pretty much because my main computer, The one I have learned to trust, is putting up a hell of a fight and wont co-operate.

Let me explain; When I boot my computer up, It makes it past the Windows loading screen and right before the "Login-in" screen appears...It restarts. That is, if my keyboard is plugged in.

However, If my keyboard isn't plugged in, The log-in screen appears and all is normal. But I cant type in my password...And if I plug in the keyboard at the login screen, It doesnt seem to detect it.

Either way, I cant get onto my name. And I am using a really old labtop that I had lying around. I would really appreciate any help.

Btw, Windows XP Profetional and I cant find my CD.

does this happen with ANY keyboard you use? or have you tried different ones, and got the same result?

Edit: i'm just asking, cuz it could simply be a keyboard problem, and using another one could fix it :-/

Can you login in safe mode?

It happens with ALL keyboards. And yes, I have tried safe mode.

hmm.. it could be anything tbh..

does your keyboard have a USB or a PS/2 plug? it could be a damaged port :-/...

try using a ps/2 or a usb plug keyboard (which ever one you are not using atm).

i'm assuming this is a hardware problem.

it could be a motherboard issue :-/ as well...

i'm wondering as well, when you get to the login screen, does your computer restart right away when you reach it? or after you try to type?

... also another thing, when your computer is entering safemode, and you see all the processes loading, look at them to see which one crashes. it may give you an idea if anything is wrong with your system. in such a case you need to find that xp cd and repair your system.

My keyboard uses a PS\2.

The login screen doesnt appear. The screen goes black when it should appear and then it restarts.

as i said above (and blaCkjaCk too)
-> try using a USB keyboard

if it works than it may be a problem with the port you were using.

and, sorry i think i misunderstood. when you said that you did try safe mode, i thought that you were able to actually log into it. so i assumed that it could be one of the processes failing. but from what i gather now -> you were not able to log into safe mode at all? and your keyboard did not work at all, am i right in thinking this?

sorry if i'm confusing i am just wondering if it is a hardware problem or not.

so once again if you COULD enter safemode... than pay attention to the processes which are loading.
if you could not... than try the usb keyboard.

Edit: if all fails... try repairing your system. if that does not work than it may be a more serious motherboard issue. :-/

I don't see how if the keyboard isn't plugged in it will load, and if it is plugged in it doesn't load:S  This may be more than a hardware problem...

P.S.  NoName forgot to mention the part that when his computer did work he wasn't on the forums because he was wasting his life away on ruinscape:P
