Microsoft Word 2000 crashes! by Mike on 05-17-2005 at 05:08 PM

Hello.

When I try to start Microsoft Word 2000, it opens, I can see the splash screen.
Then, I can see the textbox, where I type my text, menus etc...
However, after 2-5 seconds, my default windows error sound plays, and word closes :(

I tried renaming Normal.Dot to something else and delete the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0 registry key...

However, it still crashes with an error sound when I open it... :(

No error message is showed...

I also tried Google...

Please, help I need to use word, because of a school project...

Thanks...

Is it offical? As in do you have a legal copy of the disk?

If you need to do work quickly, i'd recommend using WordPad if school work has to be completed

Well, actually, its not a so-legal-disk... (A)

By the way, I forgot to tell you, that excel doesnt work too and that I tried repairing my installation...

Also, it's a Greek copy of Office, but I dont think that this really matters..

I'm currently downloading office 2000 sp3 from microsoft...

The download speed is really low (7.0 kb/s) for an ADSL connection...

I might try and find a mirror for sp3...

Try office update @ http://office.microsoft.com --> downloads (on the left)

I would simply remove* Word and reinstall it... If not solved then completely remove* Office and reinstall it...

* of course with "remove" I mean the proper action: "add/remove software" panel > uninstall

NEVER delete registry keys just like that if you don't have the perfect knowledge of what they do and what things depend on it!!!!!!!!!!!! In other words: very bad move...

Also, everything from Office has also many fixes, service packs, etc. Just like Windows itself. It is very recommended that you check for updates for Office also (just like you (must) do for Windows)

PS: never install from "not-so-legal" discs if you don't have the means to check if the version is 100% correct and not tampered with
