my WMp fails to play DVD's and tells me to change my resolution and colour settings, still doesn't work when i do that. installed latest drivers for graphics card and it still didn't like it

Can you play them in PowerDVD or HeroDVD?

If you've still got the original CD that came with the PC/DVD-ROM drive, that should have something like PowerDVD on it.

Try reinstalling WMP 10... i had problems playing any video til i did that... and i still don't have sound on my dvd's 
so i just use WinDVD for dvd's and i hate it
