[Beta] Who Sent It by Dempsey on 05-27-2005 at 06:08 PM

Here is an early version of my Who Sent It plugin.  ATM it works, but the links to open the file get broken, as Messenger doesn't know that the file's been moved.

It currently only works with English version of Messenger, but I'm going to add support for other languages soon.

Let me know if it works or if it doesnt.

I haven't made an installer yet, so i've attached the DLL which needs to go in the plugin dir anf be regsvr32'd and the registry value is 'Dempsey.WhoSentIt'

EDIT:  Updated attachment, shouldn't load Window Messenger now

Oh yea i forgot to say lol

It organises your recieved files into folders per email address.

eg

user1@hotmail.com sends picture.jpg
user2@hotmail.com sends work.doc

the files will move into folders like:

My Revieved Files\user1@hotmail.com\picture.jpg
My Recieved Files\user2@hotmail.com\work.doc

Once you recieve a file it will store it in a sub folder of your Recieved Files based on the senders email address.

  • Download the zip file
  • Copy the DLL to your Plugins dir (normally c:\program files\messenger plus! 3\plugins)
  • start - run  -  regsvr32 "full path to WhoSentIt.dll"
  • add a string with a value of Dempsey.WhoSentIt in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Patchou\MsgPlus2\RegisteredPlugins
  • Restart Messenger

RE: [Beta] Who Sent It by absorbation on 05-27-2005 at 07:15 PM

It's a simple but effective plugin. Maybe you could do a comand like /xsentit and it displays a record of everything everyone has sent to you and if the file is still there a link to it :P

Okay... here I come!
  1. Download the zip-file
  2. Extract the zip-file
  3. Copy WhoSentIt.dll to your Plugins dir (normally c:\program files\messenger plus! 3\plugins)
  4. Go to start > Run and type regsvr32 "full path to WhoSentIt.dll" where full path to WhoSentIt.dll is the full path to WhoSentIt.dll (like C:\Documents and Settings\(Username)\My Documents\WhoSentIt.dll
  5. Run the install.reg by double clicking it
  6. If it askes u to install it, press Yes
  7. Now, restart MSN Messenger (right-mouse click on the system tray icon of it > Exit and then open MSN Messengerb again)
    [/list]
    Was that clear enough?

RE: [Beta] Who Sent It by giken on 05-30-2005 at 09:22 PM

I installed english version of messenger to try your plugin... it works fine :)
the only thing you need to fix is the messenger link that doesn't work anymore because the file is in different location

yea I know, i keep forgetting about that, i clcik the link and wonder why nothing happens and then I remember it's because of who sent it :P

I'm trying to figure out a way to change the link to it points to the new destination.
RE: [Beta] Who Sent It by giken on 06-27-2005 at 06:58 AM

If you mean has it been created, you can find it on the first page of this thread.
RE: [Beta] Who Sent It by Dempsey on 06-27-2005 at 01:14 PM

yea still no luck in making the link point to the correct file, I'm still working on that.   If anyone has any ideas how to manage that, feel free to post them here/let me know

RE: [Beta] Who Sent It by giken on 06-29-2005 at 02:45 PM

if it takes too time maybe you can release the plugin without this feature and keep it for version 1.1 :)

in the meantime you can add to 1.0 an alert text under the messenger link to inform that the hotlink doesn't work because the file is moved ;)

so we can use this very useful feature without waiting too much :D

RE: [Beta] Who Sent It by Dempsey on 06-29-2005 at 04:59 PM

yea i may do that :)  i'll tidy it up a bit first

RE: [Beta] Who Sent It by RaceProUK on 06-29-2005 at 06:38 PM

Or, instead of just alerting the user, using the 'Yes/No' message box, saying 'The file has been relocated by WhoSentIt. Would you like to open it?'.

Edit: And you could implement a history so people can use a command to open the files again (or is that overlapping something else?).

I totally agree with you
