Windows Media Player 11: "Early 2006" by Bionic on 05-29-2005 at 10:49 AM

Windows enthusiast and journalist Paul Thurrott has just posted some new information concerning Windows Media Player 11. Microsoft intends to release WMP11 (Codename: Polaris) as an XP compatible version of the Windows Longhorn media player.

Microsoft's original plans for Windows Media Player (WMP) 11-- formerly code-named Aurora--were fairly low-key, with just a few minor new features. That's all changed: Microsoft has canceled Aurora, and the company is moving the Longhorn media player to XP. Now code-named Polaris, WMP 11 will be a major release. There's just one problem: Instead of shipping in November, as per the original plan, WMP 11 will now ship in a public beta during that month, coinciding with Longhorn Beta 2. The final release is roughly scheduled for early 2006.

Is there a need to "codename: everything, whats it ment to do, make them feel more superior?

And knowing MS "the final release is roughly scheduled for early 2006" that won't be happening. probly late 2006 early 2007. But all in all mp10 wasnt to bad.

It's for organisation mainly, also in business it's easier to keep developing teams into coded groups rather than give them long titles.

Tbh, it's hard to think how much more you can add to a media player. I don't know what new features are being added though, they say it's going to be some pretty decent stuff though, I don't think we'll be disappointed. Hopefully they'll fix those dodgy interlacing problems when you're watching some DVDs...

PS: does anyone know how to make the status indicator in my sig stop being unknown and change to online and offline please?
