Virtual Memory Problem by GiantSpider on 06-02-2005 at 02:25 PM

Every day now my PC tells me that I'm running low on Virtual memory and shuts off all my programs. Any advice?

Buy more RAM, or stop running so many programs.

increase the size of your page file...

Press [windows key] + [pause], the system diaglogue should come up. Click the "Advanced" tab, then Click the Settings button under "Performance" section.

In the new window that comes up Click advanced again, then click Change at the very bottom and increase the maximum size of teh paging file. Also, make sure the initial value is the same as the recommended value which is at the bottom

Increasing the size of your page file, i think will slow down your PC a bit, so don't do it too much. If you want to fix the problem and not decrease the speed of your PC, add some more RAM.

Never use "good ram" and "cheap" in the same sentence.

It is probably best to get the exact same ram you have now, especially if it will let you use dual-channel access.

What is the difference between the ram brands? (Corsair/Kingston/...), i've used both, and crucial too, i feel the same performance....

RE: Virtual Memory Problem by rav0 on 06-03-2005 at 08:07 AM

Corsair and Kingston both have fairly good reputations, but I don't have any real experience with them. My friend has Corsair ram, and I once owned a Kingston usb flask disk. That's it.

I would ask my local computer shop for a recomendation.
