Password-protection of Messenger Plus-settings... by Spiziuz on 06-05-2005 at 04:17 PM

When you have chosen to lock your settings, you will be asked for a password.. If the password you enter, doesnt match the correct one, it display a popup.. In that window, it says (i have the danish version, so ill translate) - "Attempts to bypass the password, will be repported to the systemadministrator"

That may be there, just to scare ppl when they try to enter the settings.. But however, i (as systemadministrator) is not told that there have been any attempts.. Will Patchou and the developers, pls consider to make a popup telling me that??

It could be displayed next time the password is entered correct, and the admin enter the configs. Included in the popup, shold be timestamp, number of attempts, and what password they used (maybe giving the admin a clue of who it might be??)

I know this is a very little issue, in the great extention, but i thought i would mention it? :)

I did try to bypass the password and did get the same error as you.

I also did get no message.

I think this would be a good idea, but it might get slightly annoying if you receive a pop up every time, as the person could try to bypass it several times a day

Guessing the password isn't quite the same as bypassing.
Also, remember that there's two versions of XP: Home and Professional. You'll probably find that the report thing is only possible on Pro.

I tried that on XP Home, it does not record it as an event.

Err.. actually, you are right, it's just to scare off people :p. I could write a note in the event log of Windows though... would you like that?
