(UK) BT Broadband by kierant on 06-08-2005 at 04:39 PM

Just an enquiry about the free upgrade. Has anyone else who is using BT Broadband recieved it yet as I don't believe I have. Will they notify me when they do it; do I have to make the first move for them to do it; how does it work etc?

I am on a 1mb package so should be upgraded to 2mb. Having said this my current speed on the net is only 576 kb (see S/S):

Surely it shouldn't be this low?

I'd check the gateway between you and the internet's speed, see if that is interfering. When I got upgraded I got no notice of it, if I hadn't heard from other sources it would have come as a nice surprise :p. Afaik, everyone on BT I know has received the upgrade.

No, you don't have to do anything. However your internet connection may go down for 30 minutes.

Try going Start==> Settings ==> Control Panel ==> Network Connections.

My connection via the router comes through as a Local Area Connection and has the router name (BT Voyager 205). Double click and bobs your ncle

not that you would ever get the one with the 1GB limit as there isnt much you can do with that. you have to pay 25 for a good package
and any UK Online is much better if you can get that in your area :@ which i cant :( but if you can it is so much cheaper and it is supposed to be really good.

I would just like to point out just in case anyone is thinking of joining Tiscali (here in UK) ....DON'T

I'm with tiscali right now and it ain't too good... it is also one of the few ISPs in the UK that does not support the broadband migration scheme using mac codes. that means if you go with them you are stuck unless you want to have a huge hassle of setting up again + all the costs involved, not to mention the fact that you will not have internet for a rather long period of time while the line is released and reconnected.

When signing up, make sure you ask whether the ISP is part of the migration scheme and will let you migrate AWAY to another isp easily.

UKOnline seems to be quite good but i've not tried it... i might switch during this summer when i don't "need" the internet as much for work and study.

The past week or so I noticed a couple of BT guys digging up the wires in my village.

Yesterday it twigged that they might be doing something to do witj the broadband and today, hey presto, I have a super 2.2mb connection! :D:D:D
