Should Football Have Video Referees? by M73A on 06-19-2005 at 07:54 PM

i hate football.....the reasos being:

-diving
-the bit where they act like they have a broken leg then get a free kick and are fine
-david beckham
-the way people say 'we beat charlton 2-1' (or whoever..) its like, ok what position do you play???

do you think football would be better if they had video referees, it would cut all of the diving :@ hopefully...

RE: Should Football Have Video Referees? by user27089 on 06-19-2005 at 07:59 PM

I think that it would definitely be much better, I'm not really into watching football, I suck at playing aswell, but I like taking part purely because it's good fun.

I know what you mean, it's really stupid the way people say stuff like that, why do they say "we" god damn, how many people must play for Manchester United ... like 1 Million :|.
RE: Should Football Have Video Referees? by Stigmata on 06-19-2005 at 08:00 PM

nice reasons :S

i think video refs should only be used in extreme cases..

where the linesmen/ref have no view.

think Man U vs Spurs, Roy Carroll's howler..

RE: Should Football Have Video Referees? by Millenium_edition on 06-19-2005 at 08:02 PM

agreed with stigmata...

and tbh, all those reasons exist in other sports too (except david beckahm, but that's not a reason)

video referees would be fun to be able to review old battles on the field

Video Refs ALL THE WAY so all footbal teams in the world dont get robbed like benfica(my team) got against porto in this GOAL, which wasnt counted..

Hmm, I don't know if video referees would be good... yes, sometimes it would be fairer, but that's a part of football.

I don't know how it is in your country, but here in Argentina football is a passion, so phrases like "we broke your ass yesterday" are normal. :P Anyways, what would football be without fans? :P
(I'm still sad/angry about Boca. :dodgy:)

IMHO, football would be better if players didn't get paid huge amounts of money, then they would just play for the game and not the money.

TOTALLY agreed!!..per example, Barcelonas' Deco (Portuguese) just signed a new contract, and nowadays he wins 420000 EUROS PER MONTH! now..meh...no comments...

the good ones would stop at the age of 28 and the game would suck because there is no objective

wtf thats so blatantly a goal :|

i like the idea of using video refs, you cant argue with video footage really
RE: Should Football Have Video Referees? by Zephyr on 06-19-2005 at 10:13 PM

I was soooo mad when this goal wasn't counted. I'm a spurs supporter and it was 0-0 against Manchester United. We were going to be happy with a draw, then with practically the last kick of the game, Pedro Mendes shot from about 60 yards out, the keeper dropped it over the line and scooped it back out.
I was watching it live on a stream and i got so annoyed when they didn't give it. Btw, this is the goal Stigmata was talking about.

Here's a video of it as well. http://www.putfile.com/media.php?n=Man-U-vs.-Tottenham-1-4-05

This made me sure that football needs video referees. I know people say its part of football, but it's just not right for teams to be disallowed an obvious goal, or players be sent off when the other team dives. IMO it's just stupid.

I don't see what's wrong with that. I say it all the time. If you support a club, you feel part of that club, and you say 'we' feeling like a member of the club. And yes IMO a supporter is part of the club.

So you're thinking there's a conspiracy against Potuguese players?

Maybe you're right. They're not bringing in video refs because they want to cheat against Portuguese footballers, lol.

Anyway, I know how you must have felt after being disallowed your goal. I hope it's just a matter of time before they bring the videos in.

actually video referees wudnt do such a good job because when there is something really confusing happening then the referees would have to watch the video in slow motion over and over again..this would waste time..and look how many "accidents" happen during soccer..u can watch the video during the game behind a table but the cameras..there wud have to be a lot of them because the field is big and to cover up the whole area wud cost money and maybe some cases putting cameras near fields and that would also mean soccerballs/players run into cameras and knock them down

its 50/50 actually
they both have pluses and minuses

Well, they have brought it into some sports already, such as Rugby. Yes, there are delays while the referees check, but people get used to them.

If it was brought into football, the referee wouldn't have to use it all the time. Maybe only for on the goal line when there is controversy about goals. If the game was stopped for every foul, that would just ruin the game. These goal line accidents, don't happen very often in the game. Maybe whethere or not goals are offside  could be decided by a video, if the referee isn't sure.
RE: Should Football Have Video Referees? by Maniac on 06-19-2005 at 11:43 PM

You guys talking about soccer right? :refuck:

I think it's stupid NOT to have video referees... why not? I don't see anything against it... but they still won't use it

Just today i watched Brasil vs Mexico (omg i saw a soccer game!!!!) and a penalty had to be shot three times and the third time it was missed... but it should have been done yet again cause some guy apparently did something wrong which the referee didn't see.... anyways this is soccer i should just retreat before i say something dumb :p

RE: Should Football Have Video Referees? by albert on 06-20-2005 at 01:45 AM

As a soccer player myself ( AA team, high caliber :D )

I would really say yes, but as a reff ( I used to reff ) I would say no.

The reasons being

as a player, u usually see everything, cuz u onlyl care about the ball

as a reff, you have to chek everything around, so weither u want it or not, you ARE going to miss somethings

now if youre talking about goals havig crossed the line.. well.. ye that wouldnt hurt.. but what about hand balls? and fouls which sometimes can also be critical to the game?

if you have to stop everytime to check if the ball was out of not.. just the 10 secs it takes to review, that would personally make me like soccer a lot less than I do.. soccer is a 90 mins game.. 45 startight, added time, 45 straight added time.. thats what so cool about it, there are no stops like american football or bball which the 2 last mins can sometimes last an easy 15..

We already have that in Cricket and it works fine... Yes of cousre you need them only in extreme cases, not in every issue that happend on field

but a minor foul can lead to winning the game.. this is the problem.. if we put videos watching the line.. then its not fair cuz there might have been a handball in the box..

I am against because mistakes are part of life and dont we also like when the mistakes are done in our favor?

Oh well this will only be the start to in the future we start seeing robot players who dont make mistakes as well...

BTW i have a friend named Pedro Mendes :P

lol well FIFA is developping a new kind of soccer ball.. it would have a kind of chip in it so that it could tell when the ball passed the goal line..

i heard that too :)

thing is, the time delay on getting the video checked would be ages. and how would this time be added? extra time?

RE: Should Football Have Video Referees? by multimillion2k on 06-22-2005 at 12:20 AM

I think video referees are okay, but how much further do people want to go? Once they start tracking the ball to the nearest millimetre, I think it's getting out of hand. Some guy will take his life because he lost all his money because of a goal that missed by the width of a hair.
