Folder/File Problem - Printable Version

My friend has been having problems with Windows showing the little preview thumbnail for .mpeg files.
Here's the screen he sent me (no idea why he whited out the file names and the folder name)

The ones that have the black previews (which is obviously the beginning of the video) are either .wmv or .avi files while the ones with the windows media player logo thing are the .mpeg files.

It's probably something to do with the fact WMV and AVI are Windows formats, and MPEG isn't.

but I have a couple of these files that are mpeg on my computer and the previews work perfectly fine...

MPEG has hundreds of subformats, not all are reconized by Windows by default or can even show the first frame as a still image...

Thanks anyway. It's not that big of a problem anyway, he and I was just wondering.
