The last concert was for the money for the transport to get the supplies out, also to keep sending out supplies. It may not have eliminated it, but however it did arise awareness and help a lot of people.
This time is much different, the leaders (of at least the UK) have said that they want to abolish the debt, there was no meeting of the 7 richest countries (and Russia) trying to do anything. So because the concert is about a totally different reason to the first, and has a different goal, it can't be compared in the light of "getting results".
As they said they don't want your money, they want you to show the leaders of the G8 that you do want them to do something, and let them do the work. Since they are the only ones who do have the power to do the most work, which was not the goal of Live Aid (1985).

I watched all day the several concerts on several tv channels...

I can't help to find the organisation of this world event is something awesome and unique (done a bit of participating in organising local big events myself; in fact yesterday it was time again for the biggest open-air afterschool party in Belgium); 10 concerts around the world, all linked together, all broadcasted on hundreds of tv channels and other media, etc... etc... simply WOW! I get the chills of even thinking about that...

yeah, I know. I think it's great how music can bring people together so well, and make people want to help so much, and everything. It's great. brings tears to my eyes

RE: Live 8 by M73A on 07-02-2005 at 11:05 PM

all of this effort will be even more amazing if they suceed in making g8 cancel debts and make fair trade and all of that:D

RE: Live 8 by Fraisie on 07-02-2005 at 11:50 PM

RE: Live 8 by Tasha on 07-03-2005 at 10:25 AM

I signed the petition.

I think about 25 million and counting had signed their names last night. The G8 are gonna have to be stupid to ignore that many people. :dodgy:

RE: Live 8 by surfichris on 07-03-2005 at 10:52 AM

I missed it lastnight when it was on TV here because I was busy with some other things but whilst I was out and about today I listened to replays on the radio and am now watching a "special presentation" of it on TV.

Bloody good concert (Y)

RE: Live 8 by _Humphreys on 07-03-2005 at 11:54 AM

I hate pop, U2 are ok but it's not for me. Yes, i've signed the list.

RE: Live 8 by King For A Day on 07-03-2005 at 12:19 PM

it was a great show i wished i could have gone, i loved the red button option to change to the differant shows i got to see green day in berlin. and velvet revolver just rocked so much. i hope this realy does help the cause

RE: Live 8 by jren207 on 07-03-2005 at 02:14 PM

It was good, I watched it all the way through on BBC. (y)

And I signed the list on the site :)

RE: Live 8 by Plik on 07-03-2005 at 05:33 PM

I watched it from VR to the end, and it was great, i think the crowd could have be my lively but i think that was because it was the vip area at the frount. So all actual crowd where further back.

Pink Floyd where awsome, for a band who havnt spoken in 24 years to reform and sound so good is amazing.

I signed the list on the site aswell :)

It wasnt all pop, i mean The Who and Pink Floyd are hardly pop :p
RE: Live 8 by Fourjays on 07-03-2005 at 05:40 PM

I thought most of the concert was pretty good. The beginning and end were brilliant. :D

I didn't think much of some of the acts in the middle though (Velvet Revolver, Snoop Dog, etc). Not my kind of music.

The Who were spectacular (my fav band :) ). Tbh, I think the crowd cheered louder for them, than Robbie Williams. :o

I hope the concert makes a difference though. We all know how good political people are at ignoring "the people" that they always say they are "representing". 8-)

RE: Live 8 by ipab on 07-03-2005 at 06:32 PM

signed it too, missed the live concert here in canada i believe. Watching re-runs though. Smashing, especially mariah carey, snoop dogg, barenaked ladies, Black Eyed Peas, Sarah McLachlan...

screw it, too hard to type all the great artists. Was amazing and hearwarming to see the world come together for this event.

RE: Live 8 by paperless on 07-03-2005 at 10:50 PM
