WINDOWS folder in recycle bin by Reaper on 07-03-2005 at 06:47 PM

withbout a doubt, most of you have encountered this problem from time to time.
for those of you that have no idea wot this is about, let me fill you.

somehow, a folder called WINDOWS appears in your recycle bin. The recycle bin icon shows its full yet when u open the recycle bin nothing is there. You cant restore the item or delete it

I know there a few fixes. like make a new file( e.g. text file) and send it to the recycle bin or terminate the explorer.exe process, start it again and empty the bin.

what i want to know is, is there a permanent fix for this?!!

I never heard of this, but can this be anything like a trojan/virus? Because I don't see why a windows folder would appear in there.. also if your system still is working good with the "windows" folder in the trash.. then I don't think there's anything in it.. I would delete it if it's empty and useless..

Try doing a virus scan, adaware scan as well..

this is no virus/trojan, nor is it ad ware or spyware from what i know but i might be wrong.
i have only seen this problem in Windows XP and Windows 2000
You cant delete the folder. It says "Access is denied to a certain file"

simply cut windows folder from recycle bin and paste it somwher else.. not in default drive..... and scan it for virus / trojan.... also check whether ur windows work fine with it being in recycle bin.. ??

:S.. oki you got me confused now.. maybe it's a file that's always supose to appear here? are your hidden files visible?

(its probably not that, but.. I dunno.. you got none to loose, check it out )

RE: WINDOWS folder in recycle bin by Reaper on 07-03-2005 at 07:14 PM

lol oops (A). basically, nothing is in your recycle bin even when hidden files are shown and it cant be deleted when you choose Empty Recycle Bin option. its not spposed to be in there

the problem is that it shows my recycle bin as full, even though theres nothing in it!.
you cant empty the recycle bin because access to a file is denied

RE: WINDOWS folder in recycle bin by ShawnZ on 07-03-2005 at 08:02 PM

Erm, are you using iconpackager or something? Try going into display properties and changing the Recycle Bin Empty icon

RE: WINDOWS folder in recycle bin by Reaper on 07-03-2005 at 08:05 PM

nope im not using anything like that. there is a file in there but you cant see it :S
even changin the icon doesnt make a difference

RE: WINDOWS folder in recycle bin by ShawnZ on 07-03-2005 at 08:06 PM

well that's a whole lot clearer :)

hum.. I really don't know what to tell you..  the only thing I can think of is to try to restart your pc in safe mode and then try to empty your recycle bin that way..
