odd LAN connection behavior, PLEASE help by NiteMare on 07-09-2005 at 05:49 AM

this has happend twice tonight

out of now where, my lan connection shut down, i can talk with the router and ping it, but can't access the internet, i checked my computers IP address, and its been changed to something completly different, adn i can't click the repair button cuz it keeps saying it can't renew the IP address, a system restore seems to have fixed the problem, but then it happend again a few minutes ago, i did a virus scan using mcafee, and a spyware scan using giant anti-spyware, but the problem reoccured

the only new software i added was the DS DVD player from http://www.cliprex.com/, to run with my new external DVD burner (sony brand)

please help i hate problems i can't fix

open your router, turn off static dns, set the lease time for dynamic dns to something really high. see if that fixes.

ok i've set the lease time from 2 hours to 2 weeks, but i don't know how to turn off the static DNS, i've had this computer running for new 4 months on this network and this has never happend do you know why it would happen?

(btw, i'll leave my computer on tonight to see if the problem is fixed, i'll reply tommorow afternoon when i check it)

You might want to unplug your computer from your router and plug it back in, just so it gets a new IP aswell. But if that causes the problem again then don't.

Shutdown the computer and the router, if the problem persists you could to this in command prompt:

code:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

There's more info in command prompt about what the problem could be than the one in windows....

Is your router also acting as a modem, or do you have a cable modem etc on the other side of your router? If so, try restarting your modem a few times.

its not the modem, i know that cuz i have several other computer on the network that are fine, anyways it seems to be working for now, only time will tell
