'Desktop Contacts' feature working intermittently by Sanjay on 07-09-2005 at 07:41 PM

Ever since I upgraded to the current Messenger Plus! version 3.54.132 I have been having problems with the 'Desktop Contacts' feature. Sometimes the feature just does not work and sometimes it works. What I mean by 'does not work', is that at times regardless of the status of my contacts that I have selected for 'Desktop Contacts', the contact does not show on my Desktop.

If it helps any, I have noticed that the times when this feature does not work, if I go into 'Preferences/Contact List/Desktop Contacts', there are NO contacts listed in the box called 'Contacts displayed on your Desktop', which is where one would select or deselect the contacts to be shown on the desktop. The other times when the 'Desktop Contacts' feature does work the entire list of my contacts is listed in the box called "Contacts displayed on your Desktop" under 'Preferences/Contact List/Desktop Contacts'.

By the way I have been having this problem throughout ever since I upgraded to the current version of Plus! (v3.54.132) it is just that I am getting around to reporting this bug now. I had been hoping that this would have been fixed by now but it seems no one has even complained about this so far. My upgrading to MSN Messenger v7.0.0816 did not help matters either. For now I am stuck with having to exit and restart MSN Messenger each time the feature does not work upon starting the computer.

For what I understand of your post, you are probably having compatibility issues with Windows Messenger. If no contact is displayed in windows like the prefernces or the Contact Manager, it means that Messenger Plus! has troubles to access the Messenger API which is generally caused by Windows Messenger running... can you check the task manager for msgmsgs.exe ?

This is happening to me also, randomly, contacts dissappear from my desktop.

Windows XP build 2600 with SP2
MSN Messenger 7.0.0813 (decided to not update to help troubleshoot this (A))
Messenger Plus! 3.54.132

did you make sure that  msmsgs.exe is not running in the background at the time that this problem occurs?

No, because I'm not having problems with Messenger Plus! not showing any contacts in the configuration screens. I'll do it now, though and see if the problem with desktop contacts not always showing happens.

How are you actually meant to stop msmsgs.exe from running anyway, I just kill the process, and it likes coming back when I restart Windows or somethies MSN Messenger.
