If you're worried about your IP getting out, get off the internet. Whenever you download (including forum sigs and avs) the owner of the website can easily see your IP. Joining an IRC network like EFNet gives your IP (well, your host which can be used to find your IP) to anyone in the channel that you join. It's inevitable that people will find your IP. So have fun living behind a proxy.

NAT:

In computer networking, network address translation (NAT, also known as network masquerading or IP-masquerading) is a technique in which the source and/or destination addresses of IP packets are rewritten as they pass through a router or firewall. It is most commonly used to enable multiple hosts on a private network to access the Internet using a single public IP address. According to specifications, routers should not act in this way, but it is a convenient and widely-used technique. Noneth

A router doesn't hide your IP, what the hell is the difference if you have one or not?

Yeah, they just focus on ppl that have they're computer ALWAYS dling, there are people that have over 300,000 MP3s on their computer :O
RE: Internet Security - Computer information hidden? by Eljay on 07-15-2005 at 02:50 PM

actually the riaa focus more on people uploading because if they get the main "sharers" then it means less can download

RE: Internet Security - Computer information hidden? by EvilSeph on 07-15-2005 at 03:03 PM

The only way the RIAA will catch you is if you download their fake files or are a big uploader. They do a sharer search and see how much stuff you're sharing, if it's a lot they take you to court. They can't prove that you've been downloading if they don't have access to see what's on your system (ie. sharing/uploading the files you downloaded).

PeerGuardian is a fight against the RIAA and such that blocks known RIAA agents from connecting to your PC and/or you from seeing them - in short, it's just an IP blocker.

If you're that paranoid, why are you posting on these forums? Big bad WDZ and Fishy can see your IP. When you visit msgplus.net, Patchou can see your IP if he so chooses. When you download Messenger Plus! the host can see your IP if they so choose to. And lots lots more.

Proxy farm for the win.
