MSN error 81000378 - Help Please =] by Tartooob on 07-22-2005 at 12:31 PM

Hello there everyone, hope someone can help me with my problem

Well i have this problem since 2 weeks and i tried everything : i searched the web^o) , i emailed Microsoft 6 times and all i get is some auto response about resetting my password :S, i login with another email which is msn hotmail plus and i talked with admins on live chat and still they don't even know what i am talking about the thought i was talking about the billing addresses and at last they said email Microsoft team ^o) , i got this error only in 1 email, what i mean is if i login with another email it will work fine so basically the problem is on this email not from my PC and yes i tried many other computers and laptops but still same problem, i can access the inbox and i tried to delete the contacts from the contacts page but nothing. i tried everything but no use.

thx all for this great fourm and i hope someone can help me or give me some tips because that email has some important contacts and am using it from a very long time so don't tell me to use another one :( i wanna fix this since its Microsoft fault.

Have you tried uninstalling MSN Messenger then reinstalling it again from http://messenger.msn.com ?

Also you could try this program used to switch the msn server. http://www.messenger-blog.com/?p=131

Hope it works.  :)

i can access the inbox and i tried to delete the contacts from the contacts page but nothing

So, it's not a problem with the passport as the email can be accessed.

RE: MSN error 81000378 - Help Please =] by J.J on 07-22-2005 at 01:47 PM

Hi Tarnoob, try this...

At the top or your msn messenger sign in window...

Go to Tools > Options > Connection > Connection Troubleshooter  - "start"

Try that, see what results you get...

RE: MSN error 81000378 - Help Please =] by Tartooob on 07-22-2005 at 02:34 PM

Mwe99 ;; Yes i can access the inbox and its right, my msn version is 7.0.0816 and i tried older msn versions and other msn clients and i only run msn plus with msn and other emails are working fine.

Third ;; the result was " Messenger did not find any problems with your system settings or programs" .

I tried List Cache Deleter but it didnt work also.

You mite only have 2 wait a few days, dts wut i did, and now it works, or you need to save your contact list, and make a new acount and add your contact list to that, my friends had to do that

RE: MSN error 81000378 - Help Please =] by COLEBLACK on 02-05-2007 at 07:12 AM

mine is working now after a long research
find the host file in
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
open it using notepad

and add this two lines

65.54.239.80 messenger.hotmail.com
65.54.239.80 dp.msnmessenger.akadns.net
then file >> save

if this dont work delete all and paste this (ctrl+a then press delete)

127.0.0.1 localhost

65.54.239.80 messenger.hotmail.com
65.54.239.80 dp.msnmessenger.akadns.net

hope this will help

It is not a good idea to do this. This means that when any of those hosts ever changes IP your Messenger will not work again. Even if 65.54.239.80 is running the right service, it's still not a good idea to directly connect to it because messenger.hotmail.com/dp.msnmessenger.akadns.net will lead to a loadbalancer that will automatically connect you with a working server. 65.54.239.80 is just 1 machine, because of that the risk of the service being down is much higher.

I suggest you take a look at that same hosts file and delete any reference to messenger.hotmail.com/dp.msnmessenger.akadns.net and other Messenger hosts. Most likely some software is blocking Messenger from connecting to the internet. Check antivirus/firewall software and Windows' own firewall settings.

Hi Guys

Same again  -  I also had the same problem but I just solved mine so I thought I might share here.  :)

Mine turns out to be a spyware program I was running - I installed it some time ago with no problems. After quite a few weeks I rebooted the machine and thats when the trouble started. 8o| Of course I didnt make the connection because it had been quite some time since I installed it.

My suggestion - turn off ALL Antispyware software and try it again. It was blocking the outbound data. :S

Hope that helps

Regards

RE: MSN error 81000378 - Help Please =] by FOFrenzel on 03-03-2007 at 05:34 PM

I turned off all anti-spyware, anti-virus and firewall programs and it did not help. Then I evaluated a litte more. I switched to other accounts on my computer. In case the account had administrative rights I got the usual error messgae (81000378), but if the account did not have these rights messenger worked fine. Then I switched back to my usual account and started messenger using the runas /user:[nonadmin] command and everything worked fine. This is not a solution of the problem, but a nice workaround. As soon as I will find a real solution I will post it here.

RE: MSN error 81000378 - Help Please =] by microwiz on 05-31-2007 at 12:00 PM

I had the same problem. I turned on extended logging and found that there was a problem with the authentication service "Failed to handle tweener challenge". This occured when i used a live acocunt as opposed to a hotmail account. then tried to switch back. I found that by logging onto hotmail.com through a web browser resolved the problem. However did not find anything on micorsft's support site. Perhaps they need ot update a Dll to handle both passport and hotmail accounts.

RE: MSN error 81000378 - Help Please =] by hendo on 08-29-2007 at 05:11 PM

Has a solution been found for this?
I get the same error on my new PC running on Vista on all accounts I try to login to. However I can login to my account if I do it on my old PC which is still connnected up downstairs.

Any help/suggestions are appreciated

Hi Guys, Ive just got a new computer and reinstlled MSN Messenger and I too have encountered this problem.

Now, whether it is coincidence or not, but on the Messenger   username/password window i clicked on the "sign up for a Windows Live ID" at the very bottom, when it brings up a new window, i clicked "sign up" and that's when it threw me straight into MSN. Result for me I hope it will be for you guys too. Fingers crossed!
