[suggestion] Transfere Sign Out by amish_2k on 08-01-2005 at 08:45 PM

Ok so heres my suggestion that wouldnt be so hard but useful.

When your chatting to someone, in the Plus menu, under the Auto Accecpt Transferes. Could there be a button which signs you out after the current transfere is complete.

I would like this because. My friends and i useually record some stuff on a video camera and transfere thenm between ourselves. These can be around 50 megs.

So he can set up a transfere switch on this option and leave it to send. When its finished it auto matically signs him out.

Thanks for listening and i hope this small but important feature could be added to the next version of Messenger Plus.

You can transfer these video's with the plugin called file transfer plus!, This will not only speed up the download/upload, but when the transfer is started you can close MSN Messenger completely, and File Transfer Plus! can close the transfer window when the download/upload is completed

Here you can download File Transfer Plus!

It's very possible to do do this already using the personalise status feature, it may not be as stylish as a plugin but at least it works. These instructions tell you how to set up your contact's computer to sign off after the file is transferred.

1) Create a status preset:
If you do this alot you'll want a preset. But you only have to do this once.
(Also, I don't think it's possible to create multiple messages in the Personalise Status window. Can it be done?)
For this preset you need to give it a name, anything will do. In this example I've used 'Auto-offline' for the status internal identifier.

The auto-responder message needs to read:
/offline

In the picture you can see I've written
Offline in 2 messages
#offline in 1 message
#/offline

- this gives you a two message buffer should your contact want to send you a message without signing you off. You can add more lines if you like, up to 10 in total. You can find more info here.

After you have started your file transfer and you're ready to leave, then you can go onto the next step.
2) Activate the personalised status:
Bring up the Personalise Status window by changing your status to away or typing /persostat in your message box.
Click Presets and select the one you just made.
Click Filter, select Send the auto-responder message to contacts I select only and add only the contact who is sending you the file. Select Ok, and go to bed! (Or whatever it is you do)
For more info about this, click here.

This is the most basic configuration - there are many more possibilities including quicktexts but I will let you discover them on your own. I hope this guide helps. :)
If anyone wishes to correct anything or suggest a better idea, feel free!

Question: Are you really amish? I thought they couldn't use computers..

According to the above you get 2 messages buffer...I would suggest you set it everytime [or do a few presets] to the amount of files your are sending/recieveing...the reason? because when a file transfer completes you recieve a message:D
