Run the tool found here.

You may be thinking: "What? That's not the virus I talked about!" It is! :) Look at #3 in the technical details:

3. Executes the file C:\winsystem.exe which drops the file msdirectx.sys, currently detected as Hacktool.Rootkit. The rootkit will be started as a service (msdirectx), in an attempt to hide both the rootkit itself and to hide the running W32.Mytob.AR@mm process.

I hope this helps :)

i m using norton 2005.
i ran the tool, didnt help!

RE: Virus help pleaaaaase! by SithToast on 08-07-2005 at 06:09 AM

You ran the tool in safe mode and temporally disabled system restore, right?

Erk, it might have been hard to find the link to the tool on the page I gave you earlier, here's a direct link.
Be sure to follow the directions to a tee, or it won't work.

You can also try out two trojan removal tools. The Cleaner and Anti-Trojan.

If that doesn't work, try running Housecall, a free webbased AV/spyware scanner.

Press Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore and then click on Restore Settings and turn it off all drives by ticking the box. This will stop the virus from restoring itself. If you need more help with it just ask. That might not be a good idea though because that clears restore points. You should try and restore your computer back before you got the virus. Then do a scan in safe mode (keep pressing F8 when you restart to get into 'Safe Mode') with the System Restore off.
You might want to reformat your computer too if you want to clean it up completely. Just make backup CDs of things you want to keep and scan each one your put in.

Hope you can get rid of it. I hate viruses like that. I'm sure everyone does.

It is a good idea, a very good idea. You should always turn off system restore (and clear restore points) to remove a virus.

That will never remove a virus. (almost never, never say never)

Safe mode = very good idea. I go into safe mode, and kill every process that task manager can (I don't do it for virus removal, but ...). FYI; both of these should be done because it will unlock files to be scanned/cleaned/erased.

If all else fails, nuke it. It's not like you're losing a lot of data :D
