Web2Messenger.com - as seen on Mess.be! by EvilSeph on 08-15-2005 at 09:38 PM

Well, if you haven't seen it yet, I'm sure you'll hear about it later on and maybe thank me then.

I've been a part of the Web2Messenger beta team since it actually worked ;) and must say this service is really handy. If you don't know why, ask around, check Mess.be or check the Web2Messenger site :)

Unfortunately, the service is invite-only and there are a limited number of invites currently in circulation. I can see "gmail" happening all over again :p so, check it out! It's really worth the wait. I'd kill for an invite ;)

I don't have any invites right now...or might have..but I'm too lazy to  check...

So people...

What is Web2Messenger ?
Web2Messenger.com is a brand-new service that allows people to send you messages from the web to MSN Messenger. You can redirect people to your personal Send Message page, or create your own Send Message page on your blog or personal website. You can even send a member a message when he or she is offline - your message will be delivered as soon as the recipient gets online!

Looks quite good but mwe99 has 0 invites
RE: Web2Messenger.com - as seen on Mess.be! by Dane on 08-15-2005 at 09:42 PM

It really is good, I use it myself.  I have invites but I wont be giving them out randomly, only to select users on my MSN list, so dont even try PMing me for one.

It's really handy, it delivers messages sent to you while offline as well.

RE: Web2Messenger.com - as seen on Mess.be! by albert on 08-15-2005 at 09:50 PM

nice, i havent yet heard of it.. but it does sound cool.. let's hope someone is nice enough to send me an invite :)

RE: Web2Messenger.com - as seen on Mess.be! by RebelSean on 08-15-2005 at 10:36 PM

I myself have gotten a chance to beta test this thing in it's early ages. I am astonished as of how fast this project has grown. I am very impressed with it, and I see it becoming huge in the next months.

What I really like about this thing is that when I am at school or at work (Which does not have MSNM on there computers), and I need to contact someone urgently, instead of emailing them I can just send them a message via the bot.

If you get invited, think of it as a priviledge and not as a opportunity to test it (Just kidding, make sure you report any bugs you find so the dev team can squash them).

Yes, we're working on it, hence "beta" ;)

You may already know that my productivity has been severely reduced for the past week or so since both of my computers died in various ways almost simultaneously. I'm hoping to get them both fixed ASAP but in the meantime I'm stuck using a copy of Knoppix (Linux) to do everything in: MSN, websites, coding.. *everything*. It's not too bad, but it's far from ideal.

People keep pestering me for invites (I've received three messages via Web2Messenger today saying "Give me an invite!!") and I'm not yet sure whether I want to be obliging, since I have a technically infinite supply... Please don't PM me or anything asking for one, though ;)
RE: Web2Messenger.com - as seen on Mess.be! by EvilSeph on 08-15-2005 at 10:48 PM

And that's why I disabled guests from sending me messages ;). Don't oblige, let them fight over the limited number already out there ;).

I should do that, because like friggin 5 people sent me a message "DUDE PLZ2INVITE ME!!! <insert email addy here>". At first I just ignored them, and now, it's getting annoying.
RE: Web2Messenger.com - as seen on Mess.be! by Lou on 08-15-2005 at 11:36 PM

This looks aboslutely great...I need an invite yet, but I see that this is the future! keep up the good work
EDIT: got there before sonicsam :P

RE: Web2Messenger.com - as seen on Mess.be! by EvilSeph on 08-15-2005 at 11:47 PM

Take a look at the many different technology/MSN Messenger websites out there, they seem to be getting a ton of invites to send out to their users :).

I finally got a hold of an invite when SonicSam said they were on MsgMad.com. :P

Seems like an interesting system so far. :P

RE: Web2Messenger.com - as seen on Mess.be! by MoRiA on 08-16-2005 at 01:38 AM

Currently a slightly buggy and unpolished system if I do say so myself, but I'm positive that it will be a very cool system when we've ironed out the bugs and got it on its own server (it's sharing StuffPlug.com's server currently).. Gotta be the best idea I've ever had, heh :D

RE: Web2Messenger.com - as seen on Mess.be! by EvilSeph on 08-16-2005 at 02:03 AM

No MoRiA, "we" have had better...now if only we could get it to work ;)

I'm sure anyone who sells them will lose the priveldge of their accounts. The opportunity to test this should not be abused.

No you don't, it's not anyones fault but your own if you do not report the spam messages. Not only that, you have the option in your control panel to only allow messages from registered users. If you dont want people to abuse it, then don't allow guests to send you messages, simple.

I sat down personally and talked to the developers and coders of this project, and I assure you that they were not hacked. A vulnerability was found in the code, which forced the site to be taken offline. The problem is getting recified, and the service will return online shortly.

Again, I re-assure you no hacking was done and these rumors are not true. While we are talking about Web2Messenger here are some stats on it. In under 2 weeks of the service going invite only roughly 1250 people have already signed up for the service. Well over 5000+ messages have been sent. And a whopping 3.5 million hits have been made.

they were hacked they said so them selves on ther web site

RE: Web2Messenger.com - as seen on Mess.be! by ShawnZ on 08-26-2005 at 12:26 AM

They were either hacked, or TB went and randomly messaged people saying it was.

RE: Web2Messenger.com - as seen on Mess.be! by RebelSean on 08-26-2005 at 12:28 AM

Notice the quotes TB used in his post. They were not hacked, a vunerability was found.

Indeed. Then that was replaced with a more formal message:

Sorry for the inconvenience but Web2Messenger has been forced to temporarially close for maintenance. We hope to have everything running smoothly soon.

Thank you for your patience in this matter.

I dunno. It happens all the time, you put something up in anger, and then have to clear that up, since you're giving a service and want people to trust you.

Or in reality it's just that TB has no sense of formal messages ;) He may be an awesome programmer but his public relations suck :P

The point in this thing is that if your at a place were you dont have MSNM and need to get a message to someone very fast, all you have to do is send a message through the bot and when the user signs in it is instantly delievered. Especially, when you know someone is online the message gets to the person instantly which makes it very usefull.

That post is very misleading. No, you do not have to use your .NET passport information, you just have to give the service your MSN Addy so that the bot itself can add you to it's list so you can recieve messenger sent via the web. And I don't know why it would have to be approved by Microsoft :S.

I actually would suggest to NOT use your .NET passport password.

THe service is currently down:

quote:

Technical Difficulties

Due to problems with our bots we have forced to suspend the operation of our service for a short period of time. Hopefully this will be less than 24 hours. In the meantime no messages will be sent and the bots will not add any new users. All bots will also appear offline.

A totally unrelated issue is that we are nearing our maximum capacity for our current number of bots. Once this number has been reached no more registrations will be accepted until more bots are created. No more bots will be made until the major technical issue is sorted and the service is back online.

Thank you for your patience in this matter.
