Very Interesting DDoS Story by DJeX on 08-16-2005 at 05:39 AM

If your interested in how DDoS works and what someone actually goes through when they get DDoSed this is a great story. It's all true and very interesting. It may be long but by the end you will have learned a thing or two about todays new ways of DDoSing.

Yeah that's indeed an interesting story, although bear in mind it's fairly old and botnets like that are becoming less and less common.

I wrote an entry on my wiki about botnets that may complement the grc one nicely, at least at least it might clear up a few things.

overloading a server with connections/bringing it down with bandwidth overuse/exploiting it with holes in the tcp protocol
which kills it.

it is indeed an intresting story, it surprises me that guy went as far as learning all those protocols to actually find out how those things work :|

Well it is part of his job to look after the company's website and their internet connection. If he's really commited to his job it really makes sence to learn about every threat that he could face. With DDos attacks becoming a large threat to many companys, knowing how they work is a good idea for anyone who will face them
