your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by [MR] on 08-23-2005 at 02:42 AM

what are some of the worst Hackers, worms, and viruses that you have had.

one of the worst and scarriest hackers i have had was the backdoor hacker...my screen went into a blue dos mode and had a bid notice saying, "hello, i am the backdoor hacker..."  and it said other scary threatening things in it...but we just did a system recovery so it was alright.

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by ShawnZ on 08-23-2005 at 03:24 AM

A record of zero hacks and standing :cheesy:

I did get this nasty worm off KaZaA back when it was popular, but i got rid of it no problem

One night I was browsing the web (I was still using Windows 98SE at that time), when my computer suddenly reset and started loading up an unfamiliar OS, so i disconnected the power at the mains for about 10 seconds, plugged it back in, and it loaded windows fine.

Wtf? a virus cant just start a different OS, you must have had a different one installed and started it accidentally :undecided:

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by L. Coyote on 08-23-2005 at 06:03 AM

I remember having an old computer, no Internet access at all. But somehow, a game that my mom bought me had a virus, which infected every single EXE in my hard drive. :( I lost a couple of good programs that came with that PC (it was pre-owned).

Next, I got that weird virus that was supposed to reboot your computer in one minute, when you connected to the Internet (this was in my laptop) and disallow copy-pasting, among other stuff. The thing is, the countdown always froze and I managed to download a removal tool without having to go to a cyber.

Yeah, and I used to get tons of spyware when I was n00b(er)...

I only recall getting one virus. And we didn't even know we had it. Got a friend to upgrade our computer or something and he said we had a die hard virus on it. Heh, that was when we first got the net.

i've only had one virus in my life, and it was crazy, whenever i opened any application, it opened up winzip and tried to compress the program

Right, but, problem, firewalls dont protect you from viruses :undecided:

it probably deleted the Open entry in the shell menu, therefore defaulting to the Winamp menu, first option being Compress

My mom trying to send an email behind my back is worse than any virus.

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by Purity on 08-23-2005 at 09:56 AM

All I ever get is spyware and adware....a virus comes like once or twice a year...

Usually from *cough* warez sites*cough* on IE....but now I use Maxthon, which does great at blocking popups, continuious pop ups. etc... I'm locked down pretty good actually.....

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by kao on 08-23-2005 at 10:03 AM

never been hacked, only virii i've had would have been back when i had Win ME on a 350mhz and it was one which didn't really do anything, and was removed easily, never had a worm either. and i never have anti virus =)

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by rix on 08-23-2005 at 10:05 AM

No viruses in my life. Reason is simple. When I was dumb enough to get virus easily, I didn't have internet access yet and now I just keep away from them. And ofcourse, guardangel NAT. :)

But lots of worms. :D

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by user35870 on 08-23-2005 at 10:13 AM

I've never been hacked. But i've had 1 virus that infected the exe's. Spyware/adware i've always got that.

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by CookieRevised on 08-23-2005 at 10:52 AM

Back in the old days, when virusses weren't as lame as the once today and weren't spread thru Messengers or activex objects or whatnot, I once got one which overwrote the boot sector, partitition table and parts of the FAT... You could say byebye to your HDD after that...

Todays virusses are realy lame and childsplay compared to some oldies real virusses...

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by [MR] on 08-23-2005 at 11:47 AM

i also got that windows update virus a few years ago...another one everytime i turned on the computer after about 10 seconds the computer would shut down.....uhh i cant even remember all of them...but it wsa so easy to fix them to just plop in that recover ME 3.5 floppy and cd and turn the computer back on and it deleted everythig and reinstalled everything with backup files...i miss using my Recover ME cd

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by CookieRevised on 08-23-2005 at 11:54 AM

on the same topic, but with a twist... The funniest I ever got was the infamous Yankee Doodle Virus. It played the Yankee Doodle song each time it infected a file, lol. You almost let it run and do its thing just to hear that song :p

As of the age of Windows, I actually never got infected by a virus (yet)...

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by emit on 08-23-2005 at 12:18 PM

I have had some hardcore spyware rip IE and some other stuff apart, but it was on a virtual machine so it didn't matter (I was too lazy to not use IE on the vm); I just deleted the whole virtual machine instead of fixing it when it became unuseable. I've also purposefully infected a unix (freebsd) virtual machine with what is called a "kaiten" a type of IRC drone that roots a *nix based OS, and also a few perl-based drones to see how badly they damage unix machines. Never infected myself though, but I do keep a collection of rbot, agobot and sdbot IRC based trojans in a folder that I study to help clean drones on IRC, along with a few compiled drones that I've stolen from runners that have been disassembled and played with to help me clean that runners botnet out.

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by Supersonicdarky on 08-23-2005 at 02:17 PM

Viruses= 2 years ago when i bought an infected pirated cd :P all it was is that you couldn't change the screensaver and it came on after a minute of non-usage
Trojans/Spyware/Adware=none
Tracking Cookies=Billions :P

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by Anubis on 08-23-2005 at 02:35 PM

Never had a virus, never been hacked, the worst I've had is tracking cookies, which everyone gets. I have downloaded viruses, however all that I know have were filtered out by my AV.

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by Lou on 08-23-2005 at 03:18 PM

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by FrozenDaggers on 08-23-2005 at 04:21 PM

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by ~INVASION~ on 09-07-2005 at 10:12 PM

use to get tons of spyware viruses and all that stuff when i was noob, (i aint now:dodgy:)
i got the comp restart after 1 miute virus had to reload, comp got killed by something, couldnt load up windows at all, tried to recover, cd broke cause my cd drive closed before the disk was in so i had to wait 2 months for a free windows xp from microsoft ()

since then, about a year ago, i have gotten like 2 crap viruses because i used internet explorer to see a pirating site :dodgy: and no spyware and never in my life have had any of those msn worms, stupid ass things

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by Zephyr on 09-07-2005 at 10:26 PM

When i got my new computer about a year and a half ago. My dad set up the internet, but hadn't installed a firewall or an antivirus. It was right at the time of the sasser worm, so my computer got infected after less than a day of being online.

I coudln't access the internet, and my system kept shutting down every couple of minutes which was the most annoying. We got some fix for it from my dads work computer which cleaned it. Then i installed a firewall and an antivirus. I haven't had a virus since then.

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by Dane on 09-07-2005 at 11:02 PM

Viruses: Aprox. 300-400

However, the most (if not all) are ones I purposely downloaded for fun, testing, reporting, etc.  And I used proper procedure while handeling most of them.  One or Two HAVE escaped on me though :p.

Hack Attempts: 1
Successes: 0

Once I had a program that sent all my passwords back to the creator...firewall blocked it and I promptly destroyed the program.

thats about it :P.

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by joao267 on 09-07-2005 at 11:22 PM

I have Wndows XP SP2, Norton Antivirus 2005, Microsoft Anti-Spyware, Spybot 1.4, Ad-Aware SE Pro 1.06 and Spyware Doctor 3.2.
Now I never had more problems with virus, hackers, spyware, worms etc.

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by surfichris on 09-07-2005 at 11:37 PM

I haven't had one for about 3 years now - before that it was mostly due to my brothers downloading things.

Right now I run Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition which means a centrally located update facility and quarrantine.

I do however receive about 85 viruses a day in my mailbox for mybboard.com and surfionline.com, they're picked up by the server and then a notice with pretty graphs is sent to me whilst others which aren't caught are deteced by Symantec Antivirus.

Note, I also run a hardware (well its software really) Smoothwall firewall box on my connection which basically drops alot of incoming packets from dodgy places and into dodgy ports so being behind this firewall with NAT makes things pretty secure.

For anyone interested here are the stats for viruses hitting my email accounts for yesterday:

1. Worm.SomeFool.Z - 6
2. Worm.Mydoom.M -6
3. Worm.Bagle.AG - 8
4. HTML.Phishing.Bank-28 - 2
5. HTML.Phishing.Auction-42 - 2
6. HTML.Phishing.Bank-31 - 2
7. Worm.Bagle.Gen-zippwd - 4
8. Worm.SomeFool.AA-2 - 4
9. Worm.SomeFool.Gen-1 - 6
10. HTML.Phishing.Bank-49 - 4
11. HTML.Phishing.Bank-3 - 2
12. Worm.SomeFool.P - 28
13. Exploit.HTML.IFrame - 11

Yes Norton Antivirus is very good. The version witch give us  more protection is  Norton Internet Security 205 Anti-Spyware Edition. (It include Norton Antivirus 2005).

Sorry any English mistake

Zero Hacks, Zero Virii, Zero Worm's & Zero Trojans have gotten past my Router/Firewall/Anti Virus combination.  Spyware, had a couple but all were removed efficiently & effectively with no adverse effects.

RE: your worst Viruses, Worms, and hackings in your computer by RebelSean on 09-08-2005 at 11:37 PM

I've never had a work nor have been hacked. I do recall that my computer was one of millions that got infected with sasser. Dodgy mother opening emails :(. I've only had 2 pieces of spyware get on my system, LOP and Bonsi Buddy. Each removed with ease.
