RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by x2zen on 08-23-2005 at 07:53 PM

From mess.be

quote:
Zero1 says:
Microsoft have released a final version of MSN Messenger 7.5 (7.5.0299) on the MSN Messenger site right away. Official information seems not to have been updated yet as the site is still displaying MSN Messenger Version 7.0.

Some of the new features that have been incorporated in this updated version are the ability to add people, start a conversation, start a video conversation and start a voice conversation via a link in a webpage. The links are constructed as so:

Start a conversation: msnim:chat?contact=contact@hotmail.com
Add a contact: msnim:add?contact=contact@hotmail.com
Start a voice conversation: msinm:voice?contact=contact@hotmail.com
Start a video conversation: msinm:video?contact=contact@hotmail.com

Some people may notice this feature is similar to AOL Instant Messenger's link system.

The quality of audio over MSN Messenger has been improved and better echo-cancellation implemented.

RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Dane on 08-23-2005 at 08:03 PM

haha, sources anyone?  :p, Patches found out from me after I posted it on TechnologyPulse, I saw it on Neowin and MSN Messenger at roughly the same time, and then Mess.be released it last :P.  So, click those links to check out the leading articles :P

RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by user27089 on 08-23-2005 at 08:04 PM

I don't think that I will be downloading this program until the following programs are made compatible with it:

  • Messenger Plus! Beta
  • Stuffplug
  • My current skin

I never do to be honest, I like what I'm used to, and hate getting something new, unless the old stuff for it is compatible... MSN Messenger is one big advert, so I need these to get rid of them for me.
RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Max on 08-23-2005 at 08:04 PM

You told me over Messenger actually. ;)

Err...Messenger Plus! Beta is?  In fact, I think the current final of Messenger Plus! is as well.
RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by blackjack on 08-23-2005 at 08:07 PM

There is no current final yet. Messenger Plus! is still in beta stage; even translations hasn't been started yet...
RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Tasha on 08-23-2005 at 08:12 PM

I'm not upgrading until they force me too. I tried the beta, and it just seemed more bloated than 7.0. I found the voice clips were alright, but kinda useless, and the animated background things were just a completely useless, not to say, annoying, feature. :s Ah well. Also, things like Stuffplug won't be compatible, and I use that for things a lot, so...

According to Patchou, it is only 95% compatible, I prefer it when it is 100% compatible, I hate bugs.
RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Robinski on 08-23-2005 at 08:17 PM

7.5 seems to be broken on Windows Server 2003

I am not able to login with is... :(

RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Kryptonate on 08-23-2005 at 08:17 PM

RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Max on 08-23-2005 at 08:20 PM

They'll probably be an update in a couple of days. Its probably got bugs it in still, but they just wanted to beat the competition. :P

I hope not. I can't stand software being released just to be ahead of the competition.
RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Max on 08-23-2005 at 08:38 PM

I hope they don't either, but they might, you don't know. :)

RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by RebelSean on 08-24-2005 at 12:06 AM

Guys, seriously, it takes patchers time to update there patch. It's not like 3 hours after a MAJOR release they can have there patch out. It will take some time. Rolando & Ahmad are busy people, and I'm sure they will get it out as soon as they can, be patient.

Edit: Looks like A-Patch is already updated.

If you didn't do anything weird, the chances are big that you still have your installer of 7.0. Look into the following directory for a subdirectory call MSN Messenger 7.0.xxxx, in that subdirectory you'll find your MSI installer:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\
(on win xp, for other os's the dir is similar)

Also note that the above directory can be hidden, so turn on "show hidden and system files". To do so, go to "My Computer" > "Tools" > "Folder Options" > "View" tab.

Also see
CookieRevised's reply to Setup dosen't find MsnMsgs.msi

PS: and this is also the location were Windows gets its original installer from when you choose to "repair" in add/remove programs...

-----------------------------------------------------

In futur, save the install file you've downloaded from the net instead of executing it directly  ;)

Not only in sigs, you can bet such links will popup all over the place now. Especially on pages of young and/or "unknowledgeable" people who do not know that when you do such a thing you will recieve a massive increase in spam in your mailbox....

And yet I thought MS (if I may generalize all their devisions) wanted to fight spam at all costs. Or at least warn users about it....

Hmmm, nice going... again...

On a sidenote: I wonder what certain people will say about this. And I mean the people who accuse Plus! of being a security risk to the user because it doesn't encrypt your email in the registry...

:(

It would have been great if they gave an encoding for their email (and their MSNM client decoded this). Otherwise, the spambots will love this method.
RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by dn2004 on 08-24-2005 at 06:35 AM

i found if msg plus is uninstalled and stuff-ng is uninstalled it signs in okay im gonna have to wait for a compatible version of both :(

RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Matti on 08-24-2005 at 09:21 AM

Hey, does sum1 has a mirror of the Dutch version 4 me? Coz microsoft.com seems 2 be down 4 the moment... :S

RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Kryptonate on 08-24-2005 at 09:28 AM

the dutch sites of MSN Messenger are http://messenger.msn.nl (The Netherlands) and http://messenger.msn.be (Belgium)

RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Matti on 08-24-2005 at 09:39 AM

Yeah, but the downloadlinks doesn't works.
But doesn't matter anymore, got already a mirror.

Now it won't sign in! Probs with DNS & Key ports. It says that I have 2 check my proxy- and firewallsettings. :S

did you let your firewall gave access to MSN Messenger to access the internet?
RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Matti on 08-24-2005 at 10:15 AM

I have Windows Firewall... And I think it does...
I go start > config. panel > Security center (or whatever it's called) > Windows Firewall > Exceptions > there I see MSN Messenger checked.
I think it has 2b checked, so that's good?

RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Hank on 08-24-2005 at 10:34 AM

Maybe, delete the old Exception of MSN Messenger an RE-ADD it

RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Matti on 08-24-2005 at 10:39 AM

I already did that. Maybe, if this helps, it gives error code 80072ee7.
Help me!!! :'(

RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Kryptonate on 08-24-2005 at 10:45 AM

What happens if you turn off the windows firewall, can you connect then?

RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by kierant on 08-24-2005 at 01:29 PM

Still no luck signing in for me.
It has failed to sign in at all on my laptop - coming up with the message about being unavailable at this time, check firewall blah blah.

However, I managed to sign in one time on my PC but after installing the mess patch I can't sign in at all on here either.

I have since repaired Messenger but still cannot sign in. Other users on both computers can sign in so is it just my account? Grr this sucks. Back to 7.0 for me.

EDIT: For some reason, after I attempt to sign in, my email address is changed automatically to 'K   I   E   R   A   N' as shown and my password appears 6 characters shorter than it actually is. Maybe this is linked with the problem

RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Stan on 08-24-2005 at 03:39 PM

My MSN 7.5.0299 wouldn't sign in so I uninstalled StuffPlug, still wouldn't sign in, so i removed MsgPlus, and then it signed in fine.  I then tried reinstalling MsgPlus and it wouldn't sign in again :(

RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Max on 08-24-2005 at 03:43 PM

That's weird. StuffPlug and MsgPlus! both work fine with me. StuffPlug doesn't make it crash like it apparently does for others.

RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Stan on 08-24-2005 at 03:45 PM

Found out what was causing Messenger not to sign in with MsgPlus -> Custom Names.  If you have custom names enabled then you get that error when you try to sign in.  You can re-enable them after you sign in, but if they are enabled before you sign in then it won't let you sign in :/

RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Matti on 08-24-2005 at 03:49 PM

AARGH! Why do I always am in trouble...
Whatever, I searched a bit and found out in Tools > Options > Connection > Advanced settings there's nothing inputted. Can sum1 tell me what I have 2 fill in it? :(

RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Max on 08-24-2005 at 03:49 PM

Ummm, no it doesn't.

I have Custom names enabled, and I can sign into MSN Messenger 7.5 with ease, and I haven't had any problems with it at all. It might just a localised problem for a few of you. ;)

RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by zaher1988 on 08-24-2005 at 03:50 PM

Got it and working perfectly!! with all the patches and messenger plus and stuffplug

except a problem with msn today, check this http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=49444

RE: MSN Messenger 7.5 Final Released by Matti on 08-24-2005 at 04:26 PM

It still doesn't works...
Any1 other ideas? And why's microsoft down?

Yep that's what did it for me too. Thanks, it's been driving me mad not being able to sign in.

Maybe this is part of the 5% that's not yet compatible in Plus!
