would it be possible to make profiles hidden unless you are logged in.

The reason I ask this is because this way spam bots can't harvest e-mail addresses.

Of course, the links to e-mail addresses below each post would also have to be hidden unless you are logged in too.

Well, I would have emails hidden and that's all about it, no need to hide the whole rest. :^)

Or would it be possible to stop the spam bots by using some form of code or is this already done?

Umm, they dont link to an email address at all :-/
they link to a email form that doesnt show the email address of the user on it :-/

And the profile page only displays your email address if you set it as your msn address. or in one of those feilds.

of course:

<script language="javascript">
antispam = "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1234567890@."
address += antispam.charAt(7)
address += antispam.charAt(0)
address += antispam.charAt(8)
address += antispam.charAt(36)
address += antispam.charAt(24)
address += antispam.charAt(14)
address += antispam.charAt(37)
address += antispam.charAt(2)
address += antispam.charAt(8)
address += antispam.charAt(14)
address += antispam.charAt(12)
document.write('<a href=\"mailto:'+address+'\">'+address+'</a>)
</script>

That's what I used to use, im sure its possible to create a php script that generates those chatAt commands from a text input
RE: profile hidden by Millenium_edition on 08-24-2005 at 06:57 PM

the msn address field is already protected against spam bots... but i seriously doubt that works

hmm, it used to have a random character in front of it when copying it... it might just be the tabulation in front of it...
hmm. :-/

then indeed saralk's suggestion should be taken into consideration

You don't have to put your ac@hotmail.com address in the MSN field.

You can put: "it's a hotmail: ac"

Anyone who is interested will understand, and type the correct address to add you.
