7.5.0299 Crashing by John Anderton on 08-28-2005 at 11:10 AM

i just downloaded the latest msn messenger which is a 8.91 mb installer :shocked: The size just keeps increasing :P

Anyways i downloaded and installed it over the old msn. When it launched my firewall (zone alarm security suite (av+fw+asw)) stopped it and asked me for permissions .... i allowed it and then it crashed. I restarted it and it crashed again.
So i uninstall it and then reinstall. Same problem.

It was downloaded from the official site as usual. http://messenger.msn.com/Download

I cant confirm the version number as i cant even get it started :-/ I just copied the version number from Absorbations skin thread which happened to be in the same forum ;)

Yeh stuffplug will crash msn 7.5 if the over-sized display pictures feature is enabled. I suggest you remove stuffplug  and try again.

Thank god. Im waiting for TB's new release ;)
And A. Madsen why did the size increase if they removed the support for older versions O.o
RE: 7.5.0299 Crashing by Eljay on 08-28-2005 at 12:10 PM

beta versions have more debugging features and stuff i guess thats why the size is huge, anyways you dont have to totally disable SPNG

Start > Run > regedit > go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Patchou\MsgPlus2\<your email>\Preferences\Plugins\stuffplug-ng.dll

and set BigEmotes and BiggerDP to 00

See Leah's MSN Space (http://spaces.msn.com/members/IMUnplugged/), she is the msn messenger Program Manager:

Setup Changes

It wasn't easy, but Messenger had to make the painful decision to only support Windows XP gold and above users on this new version since the majority of our customers are running newer systems If you are running an older OS you'll have to stick with Messenger 7. Lucky for you that was a good product too. For the people running XP and above, thanks to this change we were able to clean up and get rid of a bunch of the bulk, which will result in a smaller setup package.
:)

My point exactly .... it says "which will result in a smaller setup package." and the size has increased.

7.0.x (random)      -> 7.01 MB
7.5.x (older)          -> 7.62 MB
7.5.0299 (current) -> 8.91 MB

See what i mean :-/
Can i run the old stuffplug with big emos, unlimited emos only and no ads ?? Those are the 3 most imp things for me :)

Ok StuffPlug-NG 2.2.397 BETA is out atm and here is what it says

Small Description:
95% Compatible With MSNM 7.5
Full Description:
This BETA version makes StuffPlug-NG mostly compatible with MSN Messenger 7.5. All features except the Ignore Feature should work as expected. This version has not been through beta testing so may not be 100% reliable, but the large number of broken features forced this public beta release. English Only.

Ok ill try it and report back :)

[offtopic]Such a small topic has become a hot topic :rolleyes:[/offtopic]

Update: The new update works perfectly .... thanks
<3 the new pop up for options and info on window opened ;)

It just makes it look good like you can see your dp before you sign in. Then if i come and sign in on your pc (i should be a old user on your pc :P) then it'll show my dp too .... it just looks better :rolleyes:

Anyway, it keeps happening and the only known way of fixing it i've found is a system restore to Aug 29
