Networking problem by spokes on 09-05-2005 at 04:33 PM

OK, i have my XP networked to my ME pc, internet connection sharing works, but file sharing doesnt, i really need file sharing to work, all settings are default, and it is a 2 PC network, no hubs etc...

You could follow this tutorial from Microsoft, "How to configure file sharing in Windows XP" http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;304040

RE: Networking problem by spokes on 09-05-2005 at 04:46 PM

nope, i already got all that, its just on my XP comp in network places, it shows the pcs connected to the network, but i cant open the ME one, and on the ME one, nothing shows up at all!

RE: Networking problem by brian on 09-05-2005 at 04:47 PM

Did you share anything yet?

Right click on folder -> Security and Sharing ?

RE: Networking problem by spokes on 09-05-2005 at 04:53 PM

yep

RE: Networking problem by brian on 09-05-2005 at 04:55 PM

So you DO have shared folders, they are using the same workground NAME, and you still don't see the other computer?

Are you sure? :\

RE: Networking problem by spokes on 09-05-2005 at 04:58 PM

Absolutely sure, XP sees other pc, but cant access it, ME doesnt see anything, but when i turn on teh ME one, it asks me to logon, but i havnt created an account to logon with

RE: Networking problem by brian on 09-05-2005 at 04:59 PM

How do you mean can't access?

Oh, login? Hmm.. I have faced this problem, go to Control Panel -> Users accounts and give your current account a password, then use the username/password you use for Windows.

RE: Networking problem by spokes on 09-05-2005 at 05:03 PM

So, i log in on ME with my XP username and pass, if so, it didn't work, it said wrong pass

RE: Networking problem by brian on 09-05-2005 at 05:06 PM

No, I mean, when you are trying to enter the computer, and it asks you for your username/password, use the one you use on the OTHER computer, ex: use your ME pass when you are trying to login from XP to ME.

RE: Networking problem by spokes on 09-05-2005 at 05:08 PM

i doesnt ask me to enter a password when i try to open it on XP, and i dont hav an ME pass anyway

RE: Networking problem by ShawnZ on 09-05-2005 at 05:13 PM

You need to have a user with the exact same name and password on BOTH computers, and you need to turn off Simple File Sharing in Folder Options > View.

RE: Networking problem by spokes on 09-05-2005 at 05:13 PM

Done, and STILL doesnt work

EDIT : My pc doesnt have that simple file sharing option, maybe its cos ive got home edition

RE: Networking problem by ShawnZ on 09-05-2005 at 05:15 PM

then enable the guest account on windows xp, and create an account named Guest with no password on windows ME

I've this same problem wich has no answer (http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=46717). Is this the only way? setting up the same user/pass on the other computers? Because I organize lan parties and it would be pretty tired/annoying setting up all of them :S.

EDIT: Exactly that's the same problem for me!
EDIT2: Screenshot:

I've tried everything! I have 2 networks adapters, and IPX protocol also installed. I put TCP/IP as my default protocol also.

No, the guest account just needs to be there.
