Does anyone know what could be causing all my programs to crash?

I try to open MSN Messenger it crashes, the same with WM Player that just doesn't load...

Running XP Home and virus scanned and spybotted and adwared checked

I had this exact problem, and it persisted and got worse each time i went to the computer. It was like a downward spiral. I eventually Formatted and Installed a fresh copy of XP Pro. YOu should back up your files and do a factory restore in my opinion. All the executables I backed up apparently contained a virus when I tried to use them on my fresh XP install. So I couldn't access them without risking infection again. It's most likely a virus.

Ugh :( well i supposed i could always do that but its a bit drastic, ive virus scanned in safe mode and i had 0 file sdetected

Which AntiVirus are you using to perform the system scan?

I use McAfee Security Centre with thier virus scanner

I too had a number of clean scans. I had no other thing to resort to besides formatting/factory restore.

fresh intall of xp will do the job or a system restore

yeah thats what im afraid of, i've done a system restore before and MSN worked again and so did the other programs, but it just happened again and i could run MSN last night but now i cant
