I have a suggestion for the forum administrator of Plugins subforum RE: Stickies for beta/released plugins Suggestion for Mods by RaceProUK on 09-08-2005 at 11:28 AM
I think the current situation is good enough, since people using Betas should know to search in the first place. The last thing we all need is some inexperienced user downloading a Beta, then demanding tech support due to problems. For some reason I still dont think this would stop people from joining so they can post their question once and leave.... even if it has been asked 100 tiems already. RE: Stickies for beta/released plugins Suggestion for Mods by linx05 on 09-08-2005 at 11:46 AM
quote:It isn't about the forum/website though. If the author is going to release a beta to the public, he/she will post about it in here. So it shouldn't be too hard to find out about it. RE: Stickies for beta/released plugins Suggestion for Mods by qgroessl on 09-08-2005 at 11:48 AM
quote: It's about the forum and website.... He's asking for plug-in threads and beta threads to be made stickies ... those are two different forums (MSN or Msg Plus! General Talk & Plugins forums.) RE: Stickies for beta/released plugins Suggestion for Mods by giken on 09-08-2005 at 12:15 PM it's not a bad idea RE: Stickies for beta/released plugins Suggestion for Mods by qgroessl on 09-08-2005 at 12:29 PM
quote: I think there'd be waaay too many stickies... especially with all the plug-ins there are. RE: Stickies for beta/released plugins Suggestion for Mods by TazDevil on 09-08-2005 at 01:49 PM
Well i agree that betas shouldnt be used by noobs, but developers like me, need more and more people to test the plugin to make sure that it is bug freee before releasing RE: Stickies for beta/released plugins Suggestion for Mods by RaceProUK on 09-08-2005 at 02:07 PM
If you want testers badly enough, make a thread to call for testers. If that doesn't get enough, then you could PM a few poeple who'll be likely to help out. RE: Stickies for beta/released plugins Suggestion for Mods by Eljay on 09-08-2005 at 03:23 PM i think a better idea would be to keep to the current way of having a thread per plugin (for releases) and have just one sticky listing them with links to the threads RE: Stickies for beta/released plugins Suggestion for Mods by RaceProUK on 09-08-2005 at 03:31 PM
quote:That's actually a very good idea, as long as there's a note in the first post aimed at scaring off n00bs. RE: Stickies for beta/released plugins Suggestion for Mods by Yousef on 09-08-2005 at 03:36 PM I'd like to see a subforum beta's as well RE: Stickies for beta/released plugins Suggestion for Mods by CookieRevised on 09-08-2005 at 05:54 PM
Though before adding stickies, people should learn how to make only 1 thread about their plugin and keep things organized. As it is now, there are too much scattered threads all about the same plugin. Stickies wouldn't solve a thing and only make the function of stickies useless because there will be too many. quote:I'm afraid that it has no functionality. For some particular plugins this could be usefull. But for most (if not all) it isn't. If you want to post a beta, why not post it in the dedicated thread (and/or toppost) in the first place? Why making another thread? Beta's of plugins become quickly updated and what one person calls a plugin beta isn't for the other plugin creator. It will simply causes even more confusion. Reading many thread about plugins you can see this perfectly. A beta is published, some bugs are reported, then a "final" version is published (often in a seperate thread; go figure why). Then some more bugs are reported (between the trivial chitchatting) and another version is published, etc... seperating all this over different threads is nothing more then adding to the confusion and people wouldn't know anymore what the latest release is or what an update is or an old version, etc... ------------------- And on the subject of searching: unfortunatly stickies wont help much with that either; you still need to search for something. Stickies wont fix the lazyness of people so to speak. RE: Stickies for beta/released plugins Suggestion for Mods by RaceProUK on 09-08-2005 at 07:20 PM
quote:Just think of all the questions we've had to answer about the sponsor, despite this sticky. RE: Stickies for beta/released plugins Suggestion for Mods by giken on 09-09-2005 at 11:11 PM
quote: I agree with you, my idea is to create one sticky thread only with all plugins list in it, editing when updated are available RE: RE: Stickies for beta/released plugins Suggestion for Mods by CookieRevised on 09-10-2005 at 12:40 AM
quote:That's the purpose of the official plugin database... Instead of creating and updating that thread, update the database. The person who would need to update the thread could as well send a simple mail to Fraisie to update the official database... There is no need for such threads and it is double/useless work. |
