Site Design Advice by wj on 09-09-2005 at 10:18 PM

Ok folks, I know ALOT of you enjoy web design and such, but I want some input on my latest site. It's a site for me to showcase/sell/advertise my photography services and photos.

[Image: attachment.php?pid=532685]

Thats the main layout/design. It's all unique pictures and my own work. What do you guys think? Suggestions? Layout ideas for content?

Thanks for the help!

Hmm... looks nice, I say change the font for the navigation? make them pictures with a nice font? and I think it'll look better under "avidPhotos".

RE: Site Design Advice by Sypher on 09-09-2005 at 10:23 PM

It's nice, but maybe to plain? I'd go for a couple of colors..

Photography is very colorfull, so let that come back onto your site :)

Firefox is asking for an update :p

It's a very nice concept. but I'd leave that gradient away... or maybe extend downwards it to a brighter color.

I want to draw the focus to the photos that I post. I dont want the design to overshadow them. Hence the basic colors.

And Firefox has been bitching for an update for a while and it keeps failing on the download. So I just ignore it.

How does that really match TBH.

I think the current colors are very nice, hence, it's a photographic site, maroon/red-ish colors is calm, professional touch.

Well... I still like the red, but I'm toying with blue.

The purple works perfectly and the row of links rather than column is better too. I'd be more interested in the gallery design than the homepage for judgement.

RE: Site Design Advice by brian on 09-10-2005 at 12:17 AM

I like KeyStorm's version, but using the original wj's colors.

Don't like Comic Sans there as the font. Doesn't go too well with the slim-ness of the site, it's just kidna too bulky tbh. Rest is great though.

RE: Site Design Advice by wj on 09-10-2005 at 06:00 AM

It's not Comic Sans, It's Hybi4, Got a better font?

RE: Site Design Advice by Eljay on 09-10-2005 at 07:19 AM

nice design, simple yet professional and more importantly table free and uses gif images :P

now it needs validation :P

you probably know how to do all this already but im bored so shh. :P

add this to the header:

code:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />

instead of <link href="whatever"> for css (not valid) use

code:
<style type="text/css">@import "whatever";</style>

for css just add other fonts in all the font-family attributes

e.g replace
code:
font-family: Verdana, Arial;
with
code:
font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif;

Yes it is im using it *-)
code:
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style.css" />

RE: Site Design Advice by Eljay on 09-10-2005 at 08:57 AM

hmm maybe its because he uses "LINK" in caps, o well @import > link :P

RE: Site Design Advice by shine on 09-10-2005 at 09:42 AM

Cool WJ

The first one is the best one.. I suggest you to remove purple gradient thingy and put the Silhouette of people in white or light grey.. If you want to say in basic colors its fine...but if you put in an orange gradient in background it will give prominance to bridge & building Silhouette

RE: Site Design Advice by KeyStorm on 09-10-2005 at 11:38 AM

I use Myriad, it looks more... professional.

Also I'd do the transition a little bit broader and the blus it (only the transition) So one can't notice the color steps in it.
