Computer dosnt end procesess by Pyroteq on 09-13-2005 at 12:43 PM

So my computer wont properly end anything properly.. I exit somthing and the process is still running.. like itunes (after installing 5.0) Msn (since 7.0) And pretty much everything else.. I dont know whats up and its annoying me cause of programs that wont run 2 instances, and taking up extra memory etc..

Any ideas?

Edit: they do not end by either task manager or the normal exit button (the exit button will close the program, but the process is still running in the task manager)

How are you ending the process? Is it by the normal method used to close the program, or using the Task Manager?

did you install a Driver? usually that can happen if a driver wasnt uninstalled properly

have you tried other taskmanager programs? like process manager http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html
just to see if its just with the taskmanager or with any program trying to end a process.

What os are you using?
what/have you installed lately?

if your using windows and can remember roughly the time this started occuring use "system restore" and restore your settings back to a previous time, you won't lose any documents etc but any programs / drivers you've installed since then will be reverted back to their versions at that time.

Any chance that you could do a fresh install? (format)

I thought of that, system restore is no good to me because its been happening for a long time.
And formatting is the last thing i want to do because i have so much crap id need to back up..

Out of interest, have you recently done a full malware scan?
