I Cant Accept Connections On Port 25 by zaidgs on 09-17-2005 at 08:06 PM

is this a common problem?! well, i was trying to establish an email (smtp) server on my computer... i downloaded a program for that service and registered to a domain on www.noip.com, but im missing something!
well, first of all i have stopped the firewall because it seems to get me some trouble,, i might need some help with that later on.
my problem now is that i cannot recieve email (but i can send nonetheless). i have been able to use POP to retrieve my email from my ISP's email account, which shows that the domain name is correctly working.
i asked a friend of mine to help me test some stuff.... it appears that he had no problem connecting to port 80, and 110, and the correct message appears on his screen when he uses "telnet" to connect to those ports.... yet he cannot connect to the port 25 at all.
i have been able to send email from one computer on my home LAN to my account, but i cannot recieve mail from servers outside my LAN.

any help is greatly apreciated... i really wanna make it work...

PS: i used this application as an email server

Do you have a router? If you don't, or if it is configured correctly, your ISP may be blocking that port.

no i have no router..... i did look up on the subject of blocking port 25 before posting my first thread,, but from my understanding,, port blocking applies to sending email, rather than recieving them.... i am not very knowledgable on that, but check this site for example

They are blocked by some ISPs, no in but allow out. I suggest using MailEnable and then using the "Smart Hosts" feature, which forwards any SMTP to the ISP SMTP, then emails can get sent.

i am not sure brian that u got me correctly or not... i can send but i cannot recieve.... how am i suposed to configure this "smart hosts" feature?

from what i read, ISPs block sending emails, to help stop spam... if this is how is it then my ISP doesnt block port 25.
but if its meant to stop clients acting as servers it would make sense to block incoming emails...

I would have to go with the notion that 25 is blocked at your ISP. If you don't have a router, and your firewall was off and it still doesn't work, it can't be your end.
