Any Tools - Gmail Spam Issue by user27089 on 09-20-2005 at 05:44 PM

Are there any tools out, or any settings that I can change, so that any spam I receive in my GMail account is deleted automatically. I literally get over a hundred spam emails a day, and it is a hinderance emptying out the Spam Box...

if you're using the gmail web interface - no. programs who read mail online and delete the annoying mail automatically (for gmail) don't exist (yet, because they can be created easily by someone who has a minimum of knowledge about the subject).

you can use filters (in the gmail main interface) to filter common words and trash the messages automatically.

you can also use a mail client (like outlook) which has spam filtering plugins (or extensions for thunderbird, or whatever) which will help you fight the wave.

a hint you might want to consider is tell people to use clear subjects and add your frequently mailed people to your gmail contacts.

Why do you want to empty it? They delete themselves (not trash or archive, just delete forever) once they get old anyway. My spam box usually has about 50 or 60 spam emails sitting in it, as the new ones arrive, the old ones disappear.

User JavaScript may be a solution. I think it would be either really easy or really difficult to create a user JavaScript to empty your spam, both because of Gmail's massive usage of JavaScript. I wouldn't know where to start writing a suitable script though

all my spam goes straight to the spam box anyway :) i just leave it there, it deletes automatically for me after 5 days :)

hmm im pretty sure i could do something like this... of course it would be a greasemonkey script and be firefox only.

* -dt- starts debugging that delete button.

edit:
hmm you would still have to activate it somehow , or to check every few hours i suspose..... but if you say empty the junkmail on page load then gmail will lock you out...

Of course it would be. You sign up to all that junk so that you can show off that your inbox is full of emails from all your "friends".

:| , traxor your so cool man, you get so many emails delivered into your spam folder

Gmail checks for new messages every ? seconds. Maybe you could build on that.

* rav0 knows nothing about how userjs or xml-rpc works :'(

30sec if i remember correctly , but think about this....

i set my own timer to remove it every 3min (google would detect the autmation and lock you out of gmail if you used that though...)
it goes off every 3 min if he keeps the site open
if he closes it then opens it again it clears it again (which could be before the 3min)

and google would lock you out of gmail for a while :P
