RE: bitorrent program? by leito on 09-22-2005 at 09:35 PM

ABC is a good client, pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net/

RE: bitorrent program? by lizard.boy on 09-22-2005 at 10:08 PM

i'd opt for abc, and isohunt is usually pretty good for finding linux iso's 8-) (and more)

RE: bitorrent program? by Savior on 09-23-2005 at 03:30 AM

What should be the incoming tcp port?

RE: bitorrent program? by prashker on 09-23-2005 at 03:32 AM

what ever port you forwarded. www.portforward.com

RE: bitorrent program? by dotNorma on 09-23-2005 at 04:03 AM

Deffinantly utorrent.

Its only 82 KB and its just as featured as any other BitTorrent program.

I mean what is a bittorrent application for? Its for downloading torrents and thats pretty much it so why should it have an extremely graphical interface like Azueres and hog resources?

RE: bitorrent program? by steVenB on 09-23-2005 at 04:37 AM

Some sites... [Learn the rules too.]

RE: bitorrent program? by Pyroteq on 09-23-2005 at 01:47 PM

Bitcomet.

RE: bitorrent program? by Garndell on 09-23-2005 at 09:27 PM

www.bittornado.com

It may be a bit old & the GUI lacking (it's undergoing a complete re-write) but it works solidly & is reliable.  The coder behind BitTornado worked with Bram Cohen on the official Bit TOrrent client so he knows what he's doing.

BitTorrent is a P2P technology, but isn't a P2P network. It isn't like "Oh, I'm bored, I use BitTorrent". It is just a file distribution technology. Example: Messenger Plus! is available as a http download. It could be offered also or only as a BitTorrent download. There would then be a torrent file to download over http, which would then connect to Messenger Plus!'s tracker and fid peers for you to download from.

It can be applied anywhere to distribute files, whereas P2P networks such as Gnutella are a massive amount of Gnutella users, all connected together, and sharing their own files. BitTorrent users (if they can be called that), find peers of the torrent that they are using via the tracker, and connect to peers for the data transfer.

My favourite BitTorrent client is G3 Torrent, but I have only tried a few.
RE: bitorrent program? by ShawnZ on 09-23-2005 at 11:53 PM

I can tell you right now to NOT use bitlord or bitcomet. Go with something decent like Burst!, BitTornado, Shareaza, or uTorrent.

RE: bitorrent program? by user27089 on 09-23-2005 at 11:55 PM

http://azureus.sourceforge.net, that is one I have always used and is really good.

azureus is bad enough to use a slow language like java, but it also hogs quite a bit of memory in my opinion.

Its true, Azurues hogs way to much memory for the simple process that it should do. A bittorrent program is a background proccess, it doesnt require to be graphically decked out. Not to mention that it is coded in the extremely slow language of java. Try uTorrent.

... Reason?

BitComet is OK in my book... some bugs and useless features, but still a good torrent client overall.

Now that I can agree with. :p

BitComet is coded in C++. (y)

Ah, yeah. It only got popular in the last week. I'm following its development actively and looking forward to when the small bugs are ironed out. It truly is a great bittorrent client.
RE: bitorrent program? by prashker on 09-25-2005 at 12:32 AM

tandy if you realized the mods  removed all the links :P anyways with Utorrent it owns im saying it again :D

???

just wondering

just because it doesent work properly on your computer might not mean it does the same on others. BitComet connects alot faster then ABC, Azuer.. wtf it is and Bitlord. infact, ABC and Azue don't even connect. (with ports forwarded), it doesent use up much memory either. i have it run on startup with alot of other programs, i go straight into wow and i have no problems with everything loaded. but thanks for info.

I dought that a bittorrent client would have a built in MP3 player, as bittorrent programs arent made for downloading MP3s.

But um...Shareaza has a built in MP3 player and I do beleive it can connect to torrent trackers. Try googling that.
RE: bitorrent program? by prashker on 09-25-2005 at 12:51 AM

I know about shareeza.

But its known to have the a bad bittorrent .... (forget the word)

but it dosent work well because of the (word i forgot)

RE: bitorrent program? by linx05 on 09-25-2005 at 03:03 AM

I use Azureus. The only downfall being how much resources it uses.

After reading some of the posts in here I've discovered G3 Torrent and µTorrent. µTorrent being the most promising. Looks like it will have IP filtering in a future version so that is something I will have to consider. Don't want to use Peerguardian.

Using µTorrent right now. I really like it! I will keep an eye on this one.

RE: bitorrent program? by prashker on 09-25-2005 at 03:10 AM

But when the tracker is down Utorrent dosent download but with Azureus it does

DHT Support (decentralized trackers) will be added soon. Though it will only be Mainline and BitComet compatible. Seems they don't like Azureus?
RE: bitorrent program? by prashker on 09-25-2005 at 03:21 AM

nooooo. Mostly all the torrents i download most of the people use Azureus. NOOOOO

RE: bitorrent program? by linx05 on 09-25-2005 at 03:27 AM

Well according to the wiki, Azureus is not compatible with Bitcomet. They are the compatible but not the same...

Read more about it here: DHT soon?

Maybe we might get lucky and the devs might support both?

I'm sure that's going to replace actually opening my browser and going to isohunt.com to type in my queries, when I can open a VB application and have THAT open my browser instead!

Of course, let's add a Winsock control and display its .LocalIP property for no good reason (increasing the program's dependencies), even though it won't show the external IP on a LAN. It does make the program look cooler, eh?
RE: bitorrent program? by rav0 on 09-25-2005 at 11:53 AM

I'm going to try it out tomorow, but judging from the screenshots, µTorrent is dangerously similar to G3 Torrent.

Yeah. The icons are the same etc. But the file size and other features are different.

Sharaza is ok, but the last version i tried was very unstable, there are memory leaks all the time, and sometimes the torrent stops downloading anything extra and you have to restart the program.

I use uTorrent, its great, my dad renders a lot of videos, and while he is doing that I can keep uTorrent running and it makes no difference to the rendering.

There already is a program for that. It's called Torrent Search Expert ;)

I found another program too that works with IRC: IRCSpy AutoXDCC

Don't let that discourage you from writing your own though. You could f.e. use other searchengines ;)

The IRCSpy AutoXDCC isn't a program that searches torrents for you btw, it's just a lil something as addition to their site that saves you the hasle of connecting to that specific server on irc and typing in those commands. mIRC does need to be running already for it to work. Just thought i'd put that here to avoid confusion ;)
RE: bitorrent program? by evil_panda on 09-26-2005 at 07:47 AM

Ummm...i use azureuz (spelt wrong) but another good one is ABC but the first one is best you can set priority and all that madness

RE: bitorrent program? by rav0 on 09-27-2005 at 03:47 AM

Now judging from the real thing, not just screenshots, µTorrent is a clone of G3 Torrent, with a few extra features, and an inobedient speed limiter.

G3 Torrent is also 3,500+ kb, uTorrent is 82kb. Ive been using uTorrent for a little now and I can safely say its unnoticable. Its SILENT.
