Microsoft AntiSpyware steps back! by Patchou on 09-24-2005 at 06:00 PM

Hi everyone,

We have yet to receive an official answer from Microsoft regarding the problems caused by their AntiSpyware product, however, it seems that they have finally started to realize some of their mistakes! An update was made to the spyware definition files on September 23rd and the msgplus.exe program is not detected as a threat at run time anymore! (like this: see previous warning) this is a huge success for Messenger Plus! as this problem was the very reason that triggered the need for a petition in August. This step back from MSAS is proof alone that some parts of the add-on were indeed flagged incorrectly and that we didn't fight for nothing. You can be sure that the support you gave to Messenger Plus! on so many internet sites and forums, in addition to the petition, is what made this change a reality. In any case, msgplus.exe is not falsely accused of things it does not do anymore and that's all what matters.

We would like to thank Microsoft for taking this matter seriously and not ignoring what their users had to say about this issue. There are still several problems surrounding the detection and removal of Messenger Plus! and its sponsor program but we hope that we will be able to work on that together as well in the near future.

Patchou

Hopefully, all things will be corrected, and these problems will get fixed. But the main thing is fixed, and this is what we all hoped for.

Thanks for the MSAS team for listening to us! (Yeah, maybe they won't read, but anyway...)

They chose the right path, after all :D . It is a good thing that they deleted msgplus.exe as a threat before they shipped a non-beta product.

I think that the petition is what made them change it ;)... So they probably already half the 10000 pages!

patchou said like 10 days before they get it, its only been 4
RE: Microsoft AntiSpyware steps back! by Patchou on 09-25-2005 at 05:52 AM

The petition was about that but also about more. Also, the fact that they received it or not it not really of consequence here, without the petition and the resulting talks about the problem on the net, nothing would have changed.

RE: Microsoft AntiSpyware steps back! by x2zen on 09-25-2005 at 07:00 AM

True Patchou.

That's great news :D (y)

RE: Microsoft AntiSpyware steps back! by Poom on 09-25-2005 at 01:25 PM

I am really glad they took the warning off. However, I think that this is all Microsoft will do. I doubt if Microsoft is ever going to send an official reply about their mistake. :/

RE: Microsoft AntiSpyware steps back! by paperless on 09-25-2005 at 01:48 PM

Well.. they werent totally wrong as Plus comes with an adware bundler which can be installed or not however i think it should only be shown when it was installed and not when it wasnt.

Anyway this are nice news ad o hope they recycle de paper like brian said.

RE: Microsoft AntiSpyware steps back! by mwe99 on 09-25-2005 at 02:06 PM

Glad to see even if they haven't finished reading it, they're starting development to stop the mis-detection. ^)^

It is because of the optional sponsor. But they didn't take the time to realize that msgplus.exe is not the ad-ware.

RE: Microsoft AntiSpyware steps back! by saljabri on 09-27-2005 at 08:27 AM

Hiphiphorray!

I think the staff at Microsoft saw the near-11,000 pages and decided they don't need more enemies.

I'm sure in time they'll come through with the rest of our requests.

I don't understand why people use MSAS in the first place.

On the other hand I see some people are reporting that they already have Messenger Plus! 3.60, gimme
