So many people are downloading at once, and there is no verified upload/download limit, so you could be downloading from one person that has 56k internet, and another that has 1mbps, then another that has 128, it will vary loads... There are loads of people downloading from these people at once aswell, which slows it down.

I'm not impressend I'm downloading a beta program at 14kbps

It all depends on the number of active users on the torrent (and of course how much they're uploading), and let's not forget the matter of setting up your router properly. This will mean the difference between a d/l speed of 5 KB/s vs. 100-200 KB/s all depending on the circumstances... Personally I've just opened DMZ for my computer cuz I'm not that much into adjusting individual ports, but that means any sort of firewall protection within the router is automatically bypassed...

Edit: Forgot something. Be sure to adjust the maximum upload speed to a proper setting as it will otherwise hinder the incoming data stream. This is due to that fact that when your computer recieves data it needs to confirm with the sender. If you're consuming your entire upload bandwidth this will take extra time, thus lowing the overall D/L speed. For 128 kbit/s I'd say around 11-12 KB/s would be a good maximum for uploads. If your BT client doesn't support bandwidth limiting, try a nice app called NetLimiter.

Ironically I was about to make a post about this too. Savior i think it could be about the ports that you have open and your firewall software. As well as the number of seeds for the file, it might not be a very popular file for example.

But i'm no expert so thats why i'm also here to ask for advice.

1) Why is my file yellow and not green? I have a 2mb internet connection. The minimum port is 10000 and the maximum is 60000 as set on default by abc.

2) Is it my firewall? i don't know how i'd let abc run normally as my firewall is bitter.

I'm using azeurus and downloading nero 7 beta and it's only giving me 2.9kps download

With me it's my ISP , Because they introduced the 20 Mbit connections a while ago they are using Packet Shaping Software to give packets priorities and P2P is getting the lowest priority

But I still get 60 kb/s average

When I was using norton AV, I found out that with worm protection ON, transfer rates were painfully slow.

Bit- torrent is difinitly a fast downloading system but sometimes it can get on your nervs when it always says "more sources needed" i hate that i also use azureus btw its really good althought abc bittorent was also good

It's not BitTorrent that's slow, its the actual torrent you have. If someone on dialup is the only seeder and 1000 people at 0% are download a file from them, it will be unbearably slow. If there are lots of peple contributing a good upload speed to the whole torrent, it will be faster.

If you look, you might find another torrent of the same thing, but this one might have many more seeders, and thus be faster.

Like some people have suggestes, limit your upload to about 80% of your theoritical max of your connection. I'm in 512/128 ADSL, so my theoretical max upload speed is 16 KB/s. 80% of that is 12.8 KB/s. You chould experiment with that value a bit. I get best performance at that setting usually, but when I use a torrent with lots of peers connected to me, I sometimes drop it doen to 10 or 9 KB/s.

Just remeber once you've finished that you didn't enjoy the slow speed and seed the torrent for others.

BTW about the program you are downloading, there is a final out (not beta like you have), and this one is a properly packed one, but about twice the size. Being better it is probably more popular and faster.

Firewalls are almost the painful problem, check your program for the ports it uses. By default Azureus use the port 6881, BitTornado and some other bitorrent clients use a random port between 10000-60000 or something like that just as vincerooney said. Keep in mind you have to enable the ports in Windows Firewall (iof you have it enalbed) and your router (if you have one and is enabled).

The other main problem has been discused in the above posts so I'll just add it to the list: Lot of leechers and few seeders.

Since were talking about Bittorrent slow im wondering. I have port forwarded my bittorrent and my downloads are at usually 300kb/s but why does it takke all my bandwith becuase i have 3mb/s ???

ok well your connection probably isent 100 just your card is. I have a 55mb one.

But our actual rogers plan is 11mb but divide that into 4 computers with wireless adapter
