Wrong!

Westlife did steal the song first from Extreme :refuck:
Extreme released the song in their album Pornograffitti in 1991.

Boy bands suck!!!

Edit: I wonder if there is any Westlife hater club

Err....

That happens a lot. Akon's "NEW" smash hit "Mr. Lonely" was actually done by Bobby Vinton in 1964.

Ye but whats the point of stealing ppl's songs..? I mean if they were to "re-create" them to make the song better or to make then more popular and give the author some credit ok, but man.. wtf is up with taking the same lyrics n the beat n redoing the same thing? :S if they would at least put some credits, ok, that would b nice, like a more popular artist singing the same song, so it becomes more popular.. but stealing it like that.. I mean come on..
RE: FRANKIE J STEALING WESTLIFE'S SONG! by Weyzza on 10-01-2005 at 05:16 AM

Of course they do not steal, otherwise you'll hear on the news someone sues another one.

The singers must have paid some amount of money for royalty to the original singer(s)/composer(s)/producer(s).

RE: FRANKIE J STEALING WESTLIFE'S SONG! by ddunk on 10-01-2005 at 05:17 AM

The whole song stealing thing isn't new either. Ask any of the black artists from previous decades who have had their songs stolen just to be sung by white people and become more people because they were white. Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti" is a good example of that.

About the credits thing: Obviously they got permission (well, they didn't in my previous example but today they must have) otherwise we'd see lawsuits flying all over the place over copyrights.

well compare the lyrics from west life's more than words to the lyrics from the cat empire's the chariot.

more than words:
Saying I love you
Is not the words I want to hear from you
It's not that I want you
Not to say, but if you only knew
How easy it would be to show me how you feel
More than words is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
Cos I'd already know

What would you do if my heart was torn in two
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those words away
Then you couldn't make things new
Just by saying I love you

More than words

Now I've tried to talk to you and make you understand
All you have to do is close your eyes
And just reach out your hands and touch me
Hold me close don't ever let me go
More than words is all I ever needed you to show
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
Cos I'd already know

What would you do if my heart was torn in two
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those words away
Then you couldn't make things new
Just by saying I love you

More than words

The Chariot:
This is a song that came upon me
one night
when the news it had been telling me
about one more war and one more fight
and 'aeh' I sighed but then
I thought about my friends
then I wrote this declaration
just in case the world end

Our guns
we shot them in the things we said
ah we didn't need no bullets
cos we rely on some words instead
kill someone in argument
outwit them with our brains
and we'd kill ourselves laughing
at the funny things we'd say

And bombs
we had them saved for special times
when the crew would call a shakedown
we break down a party landmine
women that so sexy
they explode us with their looks
ah we blowing up some speakers
jumping round till the ground shook

And missiles
they were the roadtrips that we launched
t-t-tripping across this island
starting missions at the break of dawn
yawn and smile say
'what direction shall we take?'

'Somewhere where it warm and wet'
this be the route we'd always take and

Our weapons were our instruments
made from timber and steel
we never yielded to conformity
but stood like kings
in a chariot that's riding on a
record wheel

And our airforce flying
when the frisbee in the sky
have a session while we're smoking
now we're feeling extra high
and we'd sneak into a carpark
with the skaties on our back
and we're flying down the levels howling
'on the attack now on the attack'

And battles
they happened in these dancehalls
see we'd rather fight with music
choosing one the rhythm war
battle at these shakedowns
and we battle at these gigs
we do battle in our bedrooms
made some sweet love to the beat

Then our allies grew
wherever we would roam
see whenever we're together
any stranger feel at home
in a way we are an army
but this army not destruct
no instead we're doing simple things
good loving find it run amuck

This be a declaration
written about my friends
it's engraved into this song
so they know I'm not forgetting them
see maybe if the world contained
more people like these
then the news would not be telling me
about all that warfare endlessly and

Our weapons were our instruments
made from timber and steel
we never yielded to conformity
but stood like kings
in a chariot that's riding on
a record wheel

Do you know why my mum likes westlife?
Because she already knows all the words..
RE: FRANKIE J STEALING WESTLIFE'S SONG! by user27089 on 10-01-2005 at 07:30 AM

Westlife suck anyway, to be honest, they only sang about 5 of their own songs, and they didn't even write them. Most of their songs were covers, look at their discology, and you will see that.

RE: FRANKIE J STEALING WESTLIFE'S SONG! by Anubis on 10-01-2005 at 07:40 AM

Sometimes artists doing their proformence of old songs can sound good, however when they over do it they begin to sound a little dumb...Luckally it seems like a lot of new bands are doing a lot of their own work now, but a few years back it was terrible the ammount of covers that were around.

boohoo, bands/singers/groups are covering old songs... welcome to the music industry o_O

seriously, it happens all the time, and it is very unlikely to happen that people steal the music but change the lyrics.

RE: FRANKIE J STEALING WESTLIFE'S SONG! by Vazza on 10-01-2005 at 03:40 PM

I ahve to say that sometimes that the cover versions can be better than the originals, but thats my opinion though. Also, sometimes cover versions come because artists share the same record label and they have the manager/executive producer e.g. Will Young (:dodgy:) did a cover version of Evergreen, originally performed by Westlife. The connection: Simon Cowell :dodgy:

Yeah.. they just revive songs.

RE: FRANKIE J STEALING WESTLIFE'S SONG! by emit on 10-03-2005 at 09:38 PM

There isn't a single instance of a remake/cover being better than an original. It's just not possible.
