Incorrect docking when MSN menu is hidden by brinkie on 10-11-2005 at 10:01 PM

Hi there,

First of all, I'm running version 7.5.0306 of MSN Messenger with Messenger Plus! version 3.61.145 on XP.

I'd like to comment on the docking function in MsgPlus. Let me start by saying I love the docking function. I always have Msn docked to the right of my screen so I can find it blind fold.

My problem is this. I don't like the ugly grey menu's in Msn and don't really need them once I have Msn configured the way I like it. Therefor I use the nice little button just below the file menu that allows me to hide the menu completely. It leaves a nicer layout and I like it.

[ the option I'm talking about ]

Now see the following images:

[ docked window with the MSN menu ]

[ same docked window without the MSN menu ]

As you can see, hiding the Msn menu and using docking from Messenger Plus leaves some blank space around my messenger application.

My question is this: Can Messenger Plus, when docking with the Msn menu's hidden, resize my messenger automatically to use the complete screen height and the other small blank borders around my messenger?

Or am I missing something here?

Kind regards,
Brinkie

You are not missing anything, that is a feature "missing" in MsgPlus! I think that is how it is intended to be, but it would be nice if it could auto-resize when showing/hiding the menus.

Use the plugin by TazDevil called Window Manager, it resizes the window and can even automaticly hide it for you :)

No unfortunatly it is a limitation but its by design of Microsoft. Any window that you try to move to the top of the screen Windows Automatically moves it so that you can still see the menu.

That's because the way the window is "shown" in MSN Messenger. The  window border is still there, it only isn't visible anymore.

This can even be more apparent with some styling programs (which don't properly style stuff. eg: WindowsBlinds).

But you can always drag windows "outside" the screen which means that maybe when dockin and hidding the menus, MsgPlus! drags the window "outside" the screen, and when showing the menus, MsgPlus! pulls the window's size back again.

I have verified this and you're correct. Windows itself moves applications back onto your desktop if their menu might be outside the desktop. Hidden or not.
