RE: Apple releases video Ipod by user27089 on 10-12-2005 at 07:44 PM

I don't think there is much point in having a video iPod, the photo iPod was stupid enough... So you're going to be walking along watching videos on your iPod now... They should of stuck with upgrading space for Music, rather than adding new features to the iPods...

If they bought at a 60Gb normal iPod, then that would suffice...

RE: Apple releases video Ipod by fishybobbins on 10-12-2005 at 07:52 PM

I can see people walking along watching a video and smacking into lamposts.

And I thought Bananas were the only comedic fruit.[Image: deadbanana.gif]

RE: Apple releases video Ipod by wj on 10-12-2005 at 08:08 PM

Why complain about adding video playback features. It costs no extra, They upgraded the space on the base model, and didnt increase the price. Hmm.... Seems like a good thing to do.

Agreed, could be useful in a plane, when you traveling.

Btw its on their site now : http://www.apple.com
RE: Apple releases video Ipod by ipab on 10-12-2005 at 08:11 PM

mhmm, im wondering how long the vids take to download, got no money on me, anyone want to give us some specs? Plus what format are they using for the vids :S

RE: Apple releases video Ipod by Jimcando on 10-12-2005 at 08:19 PM

Bah, all these new features will only help to reduce the battery life more.
That said, I wouldn't mind having one :P

RE: Apple releases video Ipod by ddunk on 10-12-2005 at 08:23 PM

My iCock is bigger than yours.

Completely useless idea imo. Sure it may not cost anything extra, but it's still lame.
Now that there are some specs, I can redo this post.

In doing the math, you can fit EIGHTY-SEVEN full-length feature films in 60gb (700mb each). WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU DO THAT?! Even if you took 20gb off for music storage, that's still 58 700MB films.
150 hours of video yet I can only play 3 hours without plugging it back in? Nice. Charging your iPod 50 times to go through all your videos isn't exactly fun.

Another thing: if you were to fill that thing with the 60gb of music, you'd basically lose the functionality of the screen. Who wants to spend 30 minutes scrolling through their iPod trying to find a song.

More math! 60GB = 61440MB. If you figure 1MB/min for an mp3, that's 61440 minutes of music. 1024 hours. 42 2/3 days. Over 6 weeks. YOU DO NOT NEED 6 WEEKS OF MUSIC ON YOUR IPOD.
15000 songs? Figure an average of 3mins/song comes out to 45000mins. 750 hours. 31.25 days. About 4.5 weeks of music. An iPod isn't meant to be used as a portable hard drive, so why so much space?!

Because we all know how fun watching a movie on a 2x2 [it's actually 1.767767x1.767767] screen (or whatever small amount it is) is.

Exactly.
Nevermind.

Go fork out the disgusting amount of money it takes to buy one of these things if you wish but it's all a waste IMO.
RE: Apple releases video Ipod by ipab on 10-12-2005 at 08:24 PM

it has a longer lasting battery life than its predecessors

RE: Apple releases video Ipod by wj on 10-12-2005 at 09:40 PM

Jobs said depending on your connection 10 to 30 minutes (also depends on the size of the video) as soon as I have my debit card working again (damn wells fargo) I'll by buying an episode or two of LOST and I'll let you know. I'm really intrested to see the quality on my PC screen as opposed to the iPod. Thats where I'll really be using this is for my PC at home when I miss LOST.

RE: Apple releases video Ipod by lizard.boy on 10-12-2005 at 10:37 PM

i'll be taking this as an oppertunity to buy a cheaper ipod photo/color when someone sells to upgrade. i dont give a rats ass about photos or video, i just like the album art displaying of the ipod photo/color.

RE: Apple releases video Ipod by steVenB on 10-12-2005 at 11:14 PM

Well it seems like I got burned. I held off from buying the ipod photo because of the reported sound distortion issues. So I decided to buy a nano not thinking that these new ipods would come out so soon :@
Time to get rid of the nano to raise funds for the new ipod.

Debit card would need to have a major credit card logo on it. They don't just accept normal banking debit cards. The debit card ends up being tied to your bank brought to you by Visa etc.
RE: Apple releases video Ipod by kierant on 10-13-2005 at 01:49 AM

Just to add, a new version of iTunes has been released (version 6) to coincide with the release of the ipod video. The new version allows downloads of music videos and soon tv shows.

RE: Apple releases video Ipod by dotNorma on 10-13-2005 at 04:32 AM

To be honest, who would want to watch 150 hours worth of video on an iPod? Not to mention the battery life wont last but long enough to barely finish one movie

And did the iPod really need a colo(u)r screen? It just lowers the battery life (Its not like anybody really plans on carrying photos an a media player)

RE: Apple releases video Ipod by Pipish on 10-13-2005 at 05:17 AM

Another day another ipod tbh my ipod shuffle will do me

if i was going to get something for tv i would just get a portable television!

RE: Apple releases video Ipod by wj on 10-13-2005 at 05:47 AM

I will say this much, I just downloaded last week's episode of lost and it was pretty good quality, It is 320x240, It's some apple format, but it did look fine (near TV Quality) at full screen on my iBook (1024x768)
