Antivirus in Safe Mode by Ansette on 10-14-2005 at 03:20 PM

Due to a friend having x number of viruses (so far i've noticed 3 possible infections lol..) im trying to put antivirus software on (why oh why she didnt have it before..?!) however it crashes on boot and thus only way is to run it in safe mode.. any suggestions because most AV programs i've tried wont install in safe mode :(

are you using windows xp?
if so use the roll-back feature.
called: system restore, it works on safe mode

have you tryed to remove few programs and then try defragging it. If That Dosent Help You Could Always Ask For Help On Microsoft Support.

no u see thats not the problem.. the problem is i need to remove the viruses but because of them it will not boot normally and thus must be placed in safe mode and hence needed a way of removing the viruses without any initial AV software (e.g. if there was a downloadable remover or some software that wud install while in safe mode as McAffee doesnt)

You can use an online scanner, like the one from panda

RE: Antivirus in Safe Mode by philo23 on 10-14-2005 at 06:15 PM

yea good idea, i never used one, i have never use one, but i belive there quite effective

Only problem is that safe mode doesnt allow for internet connections. I believe norton has a scanner that lets you run it in safe mode.

but dose it allow you to install it! see they cant install it

now how do you go about that then?

RE: Antivirus in Safe Mode by Ansette on 10-14-2005 at 09:25 PM

is an option in windows xp and also in 2000 at the startup option if one presses f8.. or boots improperly lol

RE: Antivirus in Safe Mode by Ezra on 10-14-2005 at 09:33 PM

so i'm assuming that solved your problem?

RE: Antivirus in Safe Mode by Ansette on 10-17-2005 at 02:51 PM

in the end i used trend micro's onlien scanner, picked up the 6viruses lol.. cud remnove 4 of them.. however now she's back in windows, u try to install AV software and u cant cos she doesnt have administrator rights.. as its a 500MHz im considerin formattin it and puttin 98 on there for her.. wudnt be a prob on the uni network anyways!
