Dental Problem by Chris4 on 10-22-2005 at 10:15 PM

I posted this on a health forum but i'll never get any replies.. so I guess this is the 2nd best place to post..

I'm 14 years old and I have had braces for just under a year.

I woke up this morning to find that my front tooth was wobbly.

It doesn't hurt at all, it just moved a bit when I eat or move with my finger.
When I flossed my mouth.. the floss can go between the gum and the tooth - so there is deffonate proof it's coming out :(

I'm starting to worry that it's going to fall out and i'll need a false tooth.

The only this I done last night was drink alcaholic drink which I hardly ever do.. It was only 4%. I know it probely has nothing to do with it but it's something I hardly ever do and I do it one night and boom - wobbly tooth.

I'm really starting to worry and really need anyones help or advice.

Thanks..

If anyone can help it's much appreciated because i'm getting really worried *-)

I'm going to book an appointment at the dentists on Monday [today being Saturday] but i'll have to wait untill Tuesday to have it looked at.. so in the meantime im going to worry my head off :(

my cousin has braces aswell and she has had those loose teeth aswell, dont worry kiddo, the root of the tooth is deep in there, braces will loosen your teeth, thats how they work, they pull teeth in which directon the orthodontist wants.

Did you get your braces tightened like 1-2 days ago? If so then the braces are doing their work, they are pulling the tooth. If you still feel uncomfortable call your doctor or go to his office and let him have a look

And the dental floss thread goes between my tooth and gum aswell, its normal because the tooth isnt attached to the gum around the edges much so dont worry about that

Best of luck :)

Thanks alot for your help.

It wasn't tightened a few days ago, about 2-3 weeks ago.
I've got a check-up in about a week.

I've got a gap in my front two teeth which he is trying to get rid of so I can see why they would be loosening.

I think I done something to them so it tightened the brace, because it was hurting a few days ago after I done that.. now I remember; which therefore caused it to loosen.

Thanks for your help, feel more confident now :D

My guess is you got really drunk and fell over on your tooth :P Jk

I wouldnt worry, ive never had a brace and a couple of my adult teeth are slightly wobley, If you look for wobles, they are going to be there! Fear not anyway, sounds normal to me :)

Because we aren't professional dentists...

Although what SikStyles told you is correct and is most likely the case, such things should be looked at by a professional dentist.

You don't go to the supermarket either to check out if you got the flu. Although there may be people there that would probably be right on the diagnostic, the place to go is to the doctor as there is a very remote chance it _might_ be something else than the flu...

Eg: what I'm wondering is why you fiddled with your braces. Did the dentist say you can do it? If so, it is still recommended that you go to him. If not, you certainly should go to see him...

Again, we are not professional dentists (and even a professional dentists wouldn't be able to give a 100% correct diagnostic via a forum), make the appointment anyways, even if you are a bit more assured now.

I totally agree with Mr Cookie Revised...Its good to have someone "reassure " you with a similiar experience...But you should seek professional help as well..Just to have a "trained specialist" look at your problem...Your teeth are important ..and Braces are an expensive investment..

Its better to get checked jus incase..
..
Good luck if you make an appointment..:)

...because a professional dentist will get you a true, surely checked response, when we'll probably talk about the wrong thing..?
RE: Dental Problem by Chris4 on 10-24-2005 at 11:02 PM

It was an easy question and anyone with basic knowledge of braces would know the answer.

Why waste my time booking an appointment for a months time then having to get my dad to take time off work to take me to the authordontists 10 miles away .. when I can just ask on here ?

People on this forum, im sure, have had this experience and therefore probely gone to the dentists/authordontists and got their advice .. so why can't they tell me what they said, instead of me having to do all that ?

RE: Dental Problem by Facta on 10-24-2005 at 11:04 PM

Nothing will happen , as i had braces 2 years, it was normal to me....
but as nvez said
ask your odontologuist or what ever that is called in english

RE: Dental Problem by Chris4 on 10-24-2005 at 11:12 PM

Why ask him if 10 people are saying it's normal 8-)^o)

Anyway... thanks for everyone's advice i'm sure i'll be fine :D:D

RE: Dental Problem by kittymew on 10-24-2005 at 11:20 PM

;) the reason chris People are telling you to see a dentist is because we care..No one wants you to do more damage ,and i am sure your parent/s don't either..
Braces are expensive..and if you do have a loose tooth..You should get it checked..like some said it could be normal..but there may be a slight chance that it may not as well..that slight chance  may mean saving an Adult tooth ..which cannot be replaced...once its gone ..its gone..And an implant tooth is very expensive as well.
Any medical query should be treated with respect for your body..and respect means "making sure" if everything is ok..and treating things early with professional care.
(taken from)http://www.dentistplace.org/loose_teeth.htm

After Braces (Orthodontics):

It is quite common for some teeth to be slightly loose during and after the wearing of braces.  This is caused by the process of pressure on the teeth by the braces and their response to the pressure exerted by the brackets and wires on your teeth.  Special cells remove bone on one side of each tooth and build bone on the opposite side.  This process allows teeth to move through bone.  Until all the bone has filled back in, teeth may be noticeably loose.

Treatment:

Contact your orthodontist.

It doesnt say .."dont contact your orthodontist..it says contact him/her)

look after yourself Chris please..

:D
