Boot Sector by DJeX on 10-23-2005 at 02:34 AM

I need some help here.

I have 2 hard drives.

Hard Drive 1 (Master, has boot info) - Windows ME
Hard Drive 2 (Slave) - Windows XP

Now what I want to do is format Hard Drive 1 because I no longer want Windows ME and I just want to keep Hard Drive 2 with the Windows XP. BUT the problem is that Hard Drive 1 has the boot info and if I format it the computer will not be able to locate Hard Drive 2 to boot into Windows XP.

How can I move the boot info from Hard Drive 1 to Hard Drive 2 so I can boot into XP and so then I can format Hard Drive 1.

The windows ME bootloader shouldn't even be able to boot windows XP. By the way, formatting shouldn't delete the MBR as far as I know because formatting only empties out the partition.

Well ok you know that screen it comes to when you have 2 operationg systems? The info for that screen is on the Win ME hardrive.

Have you tried changing the HD boot order in the BIOS? Change it to the second drive and when it boots up to WinXP you can format the first drive...

Or better yet, just change the second drive to Master and the first one to Slave. This means swapping the IDE connectors on both drives and changing the jumpers accordingly. Some HDs have the jumper configuration printed on the label, or you can just check their manufacturers website.

Then what is stopping you from copying over boot.ini and running fixmbr?
