RE: Favourite IM by Discrate on 10-23-2005 at 09:32 AM

yer i no but people might use two IM

RE: Favourite IM by user27089 on 10-23-2005 at 09:47 AM

I would say MSN Messenger, purely because (I think) it has better features, and extensions, than the others.

RE: Favourite IM by trini on 10-23-2005 at 09:53 AM

I think MSN is the best for chatting, but for file transfers I use Skype.

RE: Favourite IM by Luigi on 10-23-2005 at 09:57 AM

MSN is good only if I use Plus! & StuffPlug-NG
Yahoo! was my first messenger, and I love it!

RE: Favourite IM by absorbation on 10-23-2005 at 10:49 AM

Msn messenger for the features just a bit slow and bloated sometimes :)

RE: Favourite IM by user35870 on 10-23-2005 at 11:01 AM

MSN Messenger 7.5 .

RE: Favourite IM by Underlord on 10-23-2005 at 12:31 PM

It would be nice if you make it a public poll. IRC all the way! <3

RE: Favourite IM by emit on 10-23-2005 at 12:45 PM

IRC is definitely the greatest method of IM ever invented.

RE: Favourite IM by ibisdevil2 on 10-23-2005 at 01:10 PM

yea but globally not just this forum 40 million people use aol 20 million yahoo and only 14 million use msn iam not sure about the msn one but  it did have the least users

and i thought skype was voip software not im software

RE: Favourite IM by L. Coyote on 10-23-2005 at 01:25 PM

MSN, only if MsgPlus! and some of its plugins are present.

IRC, I like it very much. Simple, but great. But since I don't use it too often, it's not my favorite...

RE: Favourite IM by Luigi on 10-23-2005 at 03:02 PM

Yes, skype can be used as an IM client. But it's not so good :(

RE: Favourite IM by Giulia on 10-23-2005 at 03:06 PM

msn because of their functions, smileys.... :)

RE: Favourite IM by ShawnZ on 10-23-2005 at 04:16 PM

and irc was an IM since..?

RE: Favourite IM by Svip on 10-23-2005 at 04:20 PM

Indeed, shawnz!

And where is AIM? Hmmm? Or ICQ ( yes I know they run on the same protocol! )?

This would have been more accurate:

<shawnz> "What communication protocol do humans prefer?"

RE: Favourite IM by emit on 10-23-2005 at 04:22 PM

it's instant and it's messaging... it pretty much fits on that basis.

RE: Favourite IM by Val on 10-23-2005 at 04:25 PM

trillian is the best, get pro and you can go on irc (thats what im on right now, join me #banana) and you can go on msn, yahoo, aim, and jabber networks its pretty good

So true..

I voted IRC :P
RE: Favourite IM by RebelSean on 10-27-2005 at 03:20 AM

I like MSN Messenger overall. There are alot of useless things (Winks, Nudges, Animated Backgrounds, ect). Yahoo is okay, but has to much spam bots on the network. AIM is okay, not alot of people use it though :p.

RE: Favourite IM by Hank on 10-27-2005 at 04:44 AM

why is IRC even in this Poll?  its not an IM client,

Hate to say this, Sean but AIM Has More users than MSN Messenger does, just that those users May not use the AIM Client , if i remember this is why part of the reason why Yahoo an MSN has merged to beat AIM Lead in the IM market

Yahoo and Microsoft will now command upwards of 44 percent of the market, according to research firm Radicati Group, putting new pressure on market leader AOL, which holds around 56 percent market share with AIM and ICQ. And according to recent comScore Media Metrix numbers, MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger together reach 33.5 million unique users each month, more than the 23 million running AIM.

RE: Favourite IM by DJKAL on 10-27-2005 at 06:39 AM

i find file transfers on Skype a nightmare. i use MSN Messenger the most. It has the best features and most of my friends use it. I use Skype mainly coz a family member uses it (although her daughter is trying to convert her to MSN Messenger) and Google Talk (only 1 person uses it that doesn't use MSN Messenger). If it wasn't for these reasons, i would stick with only using MSN Messenger

Yes, AIM may be the most popluar, but as far as i know it is mainly used in America. In most other parts of the world MSN Messenger is used most. (Correct me if i am wrong, this is what i have read, and what i think)
RE: Favourite IM by CookieRevised on 11-01-2005 at 02:59 AM

IRC is indeed "instant" and "messaging", but doesn't belong in this poll. IRC is not an IM client, it is a protocol. It also works totally different than any other IM's; it is totally different in principle. You almost (and I say "almost") are comparing apples with lemons (or how is that expressions again? :p). Both are fruit, but both are very different. All the other IM's are brands/types of apples, IRC isn't.

AIM is more popular because it is much older than Yahoo, Google, MSN, etc. So more users started out on that. This said, a lot of AIM users have converted to other IM's (hence the big market shares today of the other IM's). Also if you look at the demographical spread vs. popularity, you'll indeed see that AIM is more popular in USA, and the other IM's are more popular in Europe (especially MSN). AOL (America OnLine), the maker of AIM so to speak, is very widespread and has a very agressive marketing scheme. Back in the days AOL was also almost the only company that provided internet (and everything related). So all this explains a bit the widepsread use of AIM.

bad statistics, cuz AIM is integrated in to the aol browser, so they might not use it, but technicaly they have it installed
RE: Favourite IM by vincerooney on 12-18-2005 at 01:55 AM

irc doesnt work for me that well...i'd connect to a server and go into chatrooms which would have people in them..but they'd never talk or the chatrooms wud be empty.

i spoke to no one and i had it for about 4 days.

so i got bored and uninstalled its ass

Indeed, I'm is just a PC-2-PC chat, but sometimes there are more peoplle, that's the difference bewteen IM and IRC. On IRC people can join freely, when in IMs can't.

Anyways, MSN of course :D has emoticons, sounds, backgrounds, blah etc.
